Audigy 2 ZS Problems

Thread Starter
Hi, just did a re-install of windows and got everything up and running again today. Everything was great until i joined my clans vent server and no one could hear me...

The card plays back sound perfectly but seems incapable of picking any up through the mic i have? I have re-installed the latest creative drivers and audio console and still nothing, the only thing that makes the mic work is if i go into control panel and go into speech properties. It works when i do that but even with my outbound a +10 it still sounds like my mic is in the other room . Before the install it worked flawlessly, Any Ideas. Im gonna try and re-install vent to see if that helps at all...

If you need any info tell me how and whjat and ill post it...

Try testing the mic:
Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment -> Sound Recorder

Tape yourself and see if you hear any playback.

Have you checked your BIOS to be certain that the onboard sound has been disabled?

Download the newest version of the Audigy 2 ZS drivers and save them to a folder. Remove all sound drivers. Use driver cleaner to remove all remnants. Shut the system down. Remove the sound card and install it in a free PCI slot being certain that it is a bus mastered slot.

Restart the system. Install the sound drivers from the folder in which you saved the newest ones.

Do you still have this issue?

Complete Way to Uninstall Audio Drivers: (SID1712 from Creative Labs)
1.Click Start, Settings, Control Panel and Add Remove Programs. Uninstall all listings related to the audio card. Do not restart the PC when prompted to.
2.Go to Control Panel and switch to Classic View. Open System, select the Hardware tab and click the Device Manager button.
3.Click on the plus sign (+) next to Sound, Video and Game Controllers to expand the group. Highlight the sound card entries, for example, Sound Blaster Audigy WDM, right click and choose the Uninstall option.
4.If there are other previous sound card entries, uninstall them as well and disable onboard audio (AC97, Sigmatel, etc) if present.
5.Reboot the PC and cancel out of any driver installation if prompted to.
6.Insert the Creative Sound Blaster installation CD into your CD/DVD-ROM drive.
7.Exit from the installation wizard if it autoruns.
8.Click Start, Run and Browse. Browse to Z:\\AUDIO\\DRIVERS (where Z:\\ represents the CD Rom drive), and run CTZAPXX.EXE, or SETUP.EXE if you have a Sound Blaster X-Fi card.
9.Select the option Overwrite existing shared Creative audio driver files.
10.In the Creative Driver Update Utility screen, select Driver Uninstallation under Update Option and select WDM Drivers under Driver Type and click OK.
11.When prompted to restart, say No.
12.Browse to the C:\\Temp and C:\\Windows\\TEMP (if it exists) folders. All files and folders in the temp folder need to be either deleted or moved to a new folder.
13.Browse to Program Files, Creative and delete the Sound Blaster Folder. If a file won't delete, right click on the file, click Properties and clear all the Attributes. The file should then be able to be deleted.
14.Empty the Recycle Bin and reboot the PC.

Great Post.

However also do this procedure but use the Creative filters instead of ATI or SLI:

Installing Graphic card driver efficiently!!! When you Update your graphics cards drivers theres ways that you should go about it. Follow these simple steps below.

1.Download and install ''Driver Cleaner'' Here:
http://www.drivercleaner.net/professional.html
2.Uninstall your Current Display drivers such as your ''ATI'' or ''Nvidia'' drivers.
3.Now run ''Driver cleaner'' and depending on the Drivers you have you will have to select either ''ATI'' or ''Nvidia'' from the drop down menu. Only select the main title of the driver in the drop down such as just ''ATI'' or ''Nvidia''
4.Once you have selected Your driver click on the ''Start'' button and this will now start the driver cleaning process. ( Do this twice to be sure )
5.Now reboot your system and Download the latest Nvidia or ATI and go ahead and install them.

Doing this avoids driver corruption and conflicts so you can now enjoy smooth gameplay.

I had the same problem with mine once, drivers were the issue and I got the kX drivers instead. They're much more reliable, the only downside is that they don't support EAX.

Man, ya know what sucks? When i got the card about a year ago teh install CD was borked (cracked in two) right out of the box. I went and go thte drivers directly from creative and they worked fine, now they dont. Theres one thing in my control panel i cnat get rid of and does not show up anywhere else... its EAX Unified with nothing else describing it or any way to remove it, just the name and a little pic of a comp... Plus after doing all that above (minus the CD parts) it still wont work. Is there a Specific thing on the CD that the DL'ed drivers wont have?

Sorry, Audio just is NOT my thing.

I usually recommending running Driver Cleaner in Windows Safe Mode. This way you can be sure they are not loaded and locked.
