Can the new 650ti series be water cooled?

Thread Starter
I made the switch from an EVGA 260 core 216 that was water cooled to an EVGA 650ti 2gb card. The performance is not that much greater and actually stutters a bit more than I am used to. I am guessing that for now it will be a bit before the drivers get tweaked for this series. What my concern is that these new cards are supposed to run sooooo much cooler and yet mine averages between 65-70c in a simple dx9 mmo game. I am used to barely hitting 50c on my 260 card.

Has anybody tried to water cool one of these yet? They look so small that the block is going to be pretty heavy for it. I was using a universal block on my 260 and i'm wondering without having to tear it apart if it would even fit. I am guessing that I will have to grab some single ram sinks for it as well because I doubt they make a cover yet (or ever) like I had for my 260 block.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I believe my old block is the Swiftech MCW60

I have looked for a water block but don't see any on the inter-webs but have found this aftermarket cooler. Accelero Twin Turbo II http://www.arctic.ac/en/p/cooling/vga/375/accelero-twin-turbo-ii.html?c=2182.

That thing looks bigger than the actual card lol. Maybe the 650ti's are just too new for anything to be out yet.

Those accelero coolers are almost always bigger than the actual card.

But how loud are the fans? That is why I wanted to see if a water block would work.

I don't see the point on water-cooling a 650 ti, it would make more sense to spend the money you would put into water-cooling on a better card imo smile.gif

Too late for that, I already paid for the card and installed it. The claims I have read about how low temps it has are mostly people commenting on a product they never owned. The card may use a LOT less electricity but the temps are around the same as my 260 when it was on air.

I live in an old house with no air conditioning or insulation so water cooling is the only way to keep my system from getting too hot.

I had a chat with a guy at EK a few months before the 660ti cards came out and he said they had no plans on making full cover blocks for the any of the 660ti models.

But that is just EK.

I hope you have the g80 mounting hardware still (might be what you used for your 260). The MCW60 mounting kit for the g80 series is within 0.4mm of being the right size to fit onto the 670/680 which I believe use the same hole spacing as your 650ti. It works perfectly with a MCW60 on my 670 ftw rocking temps in the low to mid 30's C with 600 rpm fans so rip it off the old card and go for it

Coolio! I guess I should order some small block sinks for the memory.
