GTX 260 Problem

Thread Starter
Every once in a while my 260 will freeze for about 2 seconds in game and then come back but be running at around 200hz until I restart my computer, nvidia comes up with an error saying the display adapter has lost connection and then it reconnects and the video card runs at less then half speed. No idea what causes this its pretty random. Seen other people say they had the same issue with the 200 series but found no real solution, was wondering if anyone can help. Not sure if its a stress related issue , was playing bf3 for like 2 hours yesterday never did it once, completed mw2 story today and it did it somehwere in the middle i just finished the game with it running half or less then half speed, mw3 still ran fine, but if it happens in most games my fps usually tanks.

I have the latest drivers installed.

Try reducing the core speed by 50 MHz and check...

I've ran it at lower speeds before and it didn't help. Not really an sure fire way of testing it besides playing a lot and sometimes then it doesn't even happen. Wish there was something I could do to trigger it. I'm going to play BF3 for an hour, if it happens, I'll give it a try again I guess. Still looking for suggestions. The stock clock is 576 Mhz 999 Memory 1242 Shader, I have it to 670,1150,1445. But as I said, from previous test's nothing seemed to help. Might just go back to my 9800GTX+ if it does it much more.

Hmm, try adding some more voltage?

Probably a bottleneck, what's the specs of the rest of your rig?

This is the problem I get by the way, was able to get this to pop up after overclocking it to 710 hz and running a stress test. The temps never went above 76 c right now I have it clocked at 690,1487,1050.
Stress tested the core for 5 mins at 690 and memory at 1050 for 5, it gave me the issue with the memory at 1100, maybe that is the issue, not sure. We'll see I guess.

Yeah multiple times, I put my 9800GTX+ back in overclocked it to the max and ran heaven i got a 580 then did it on the stock 260, the 260 had like 200 + or so score on it but it seems they run nearly the exact same in games, maybe the 9800GTX+ beats it in games where memory isn't an issue as it only has 512 and the 260 has 860 or w.e and im playing at 1080p, anyways i ran heaven on the 260 for an hour and it didn't crash at stock speeds then played some bf3 and csgo and nothing bad happend, it just seems a little slower then the 9800 in some games which makes me want to overclock it. in csgo the 9800gtx+ gets an everage of like 80-100 the 260 seems to average of 60-80. Bugs me that sometimes i can overclock it from stock (576) to like 690 and it will run fine for a day or two then just do that disconnect problem. I might try and see if I overlclock it to around 650 and not touch the memory if I can get it stable, not sure if it's just a problem with the card in general and not the overclocking or it just isn't a good overclock card. the 9800 base speeds are like 736 and 1100 i can get that to 780/1300 and it runs like a champ, no particles etc. the 260 when i o/c it btw never gets a particle it either just keeps overclocking or it disconnects itself. then runs at like 300hz until i restart my pc.
