Samsung Galaxy Nexus I9250 worth the money?

Thread Starter
Hey everyone, I want to know if this phone is worth my money. I get quite a deal on this phone and able get it brand new and unlocked for $250 (normal street price is $400). I know this phone is quite outdated and is not a competition to newer Android phones like the Galaxy S3 but is it a good phone? I don't really care about games but I do like to use some select 3rd party application. I only do everyday tasks such as text/instant messaging (heavy), browsing, phone calls, emails, calendar, calculator, maps, etc.

My previous Android phone is a Samsung Galaxy Mini GT-5570 which screen is too small, lacking processing power (lags), and has a limited number of third party application (even it doesn't support Firefox mobile), and obviously outdated. I'm planning to sell it to help finance the new phone if it's worth it. I also own a Blackberry 9780 that I'm giving to my dad if I'm getting this phone. Will this a good replacement for both phone?

It's a take it or leave it situation. So I'm not open to any other phone suggestion and I believe I can't get any better android phones for the price (feel free to prove me wrong).

Edit: I can list some new phone prices in my city for comparison if it helps as prices here might be different from USA/Europe.

I just got mine in May despite being near release of the S3

It is an excellent phone and is no slouch by any means. It gets updates before the S3 (due to it being a nexus) so it is actually a smoother UI experience than an S3 on ICS 4.0 when it is on jelly bean 4.1+

This phone is awesome! Love mine. I'd say for $250 unlocked it is an awesome deal. It easily still competes with other phones.

EDIT: They are also really easy to root and put custom roms on. It is literally a 10 minute process that has its own rooting kit. On mine I rooted and and installed a custom kernel, allowing me to adjust the gamma of the screen for better colours. Made my browsing experience that much better.

If you like tweaking your phone, the Galaxy Nexus is great smile.gif

The only gripe I have about mine is that the battery life isn't great, especially when the screen is on. Otherwise, it's nice and smooth smile.gif

Glad to know that you enjoy your phone.

Being a "pure Google" phone, is it harder to customize it? (rooting, custom ROMS, kernel & overclocking, etc). And how's the actual battery life on 3G? I do use Whatsapp very lot.

Being a pure google phone makes it EASIER to customize. Thats why it is a nexus phone. Its basically a developer platform for android devices. You can put custom roms kernels (there are TONNES to choose from) to allow for overclocking/battery life etc.

I will say if you are a constant texter, expect your battery drain to be a lot greater than that of a normal user. Mine personally lasts up to 24 hours on a good day, but I only really browse with some texting, no games or intensive apps.

I would expect 8 hours with heavy texting/constant use.

Yes, I love tweaking the phone. That's why I'm an Android guy.

Seems like a very good deal for a great phone. I can live with dimmed background and 2G when texting. Any major drawbacks regarding this phone?

If you like tweaking, then this phone is for you.

Only thing I REALLY dislike is that it has no SD card support, so no expandable storage.

One other thing as it cannot be used in USB mass storage device mode so it won't work with itunes clones like DoubleTwist or those alike.
Screen gets a minor burn in as do all other AMOLED displays, but its not noticeable.

The latter two I don't really care about though.

I don't care about SD card either, I hardly even use 3 GB. Hmm, no mass storage mode. Does that mean I can't edit my phones file directly from my PC? iTunes and applications alike I don't care as long as I can copy, paste, delete, and edit files directly to the phone using my PC.
