Is my GTX570 dead?

Thread Starter
I was web browsing today when my monitor when black and the system reset. No burnt smell or blistered PCB. The system posts fine and the windows7 splash screen displays fine but once windows actually starts to load, BSD! System boots into safe mode just fine, from there I reinstalled the drivers and rebooted but same thing. I removed the card and installed into another system and same issue. Could a bios flash from safe mode help? I've never flashed this card but I did make a backup of the bios. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated before I go buy another card tomorrow.

Second question, I already have a full EK water block for my 570 so I'm leaning toward getting another one or should I switch to a GTX 660 non TI? I have a line on a 660 from a friend for $140 but then I would need a new water block and from what I could find, they don't make them yet. EK is working on one but that could be a few months out.

I can't imagine a bios flash would help if you never modded it in the first place. Was it heavily overclocked ? Have you tried rolling back your drivers ? Sometimes a clearing of the CMOS does wonders. Is your card still under warranty ? Switching over to a 660 would be an improvement in the vram department, but they're gonna trade blows when it comes to horsepower. $140 is a good price though and pretty tough to ignore.
I think it would be the card, since you say you switched it to another computer and the same thing happened, but i would try updating the Bios form the vendor. So you know if that would help solve your problem

and btw, I have two 660's (non ti) in SLI, and they are beast!, I have the msi twin forzer 3 version, and i don't hear them. They idle at 26c "lower card" 29c "top card"... as i type. And when playing games or running bechmarks only the top card goes up to 60c. They are very very silent. i can't hear them over my h100... The performance in SLI is remarkable!, and they also do well in single mode too on 1080p when overclocked. I don't think you will need to put them under water biggrin.gif. You can check out my rig and it's benches.

They don't trade any blows haha, the 660 kills the 570. And yeah, i had an evga 570 clocked at 900mhz stable @ 1.075mv, so i know. tongue.gif

I was clocked 898MHz @ 1.038V with extra air cooling the whole time and now water. This card has always run pretty cool though. It was just wishful thinking on my behalf. As temping as the 660 is, I already have a full block for my 570 so I think I'll go that rout. I bought this 570 off craigslist so no warranty. Another reason to spend a little extra and buy new.

I just switched to a full water loop and would like to keep it that way. I've been really looking into the 660's but nobody makes a full block for them yet plus the extra cost.

R.I.P. old friend. You're dedicated service will not be forgotten. rolleyes.gif
Replacement 570 being picked up tomorrow from microcenter. At least this one will have a warranty and be brand new and starting life on a water block so hopefully it will last more then four months.

I was able to reflash the bios in safe mode but still nothing.

I wouldn't give up the block and the 570 either. I only had a taste of Fermi cards. I had a GTS 450. Good card. Out plays a GTX 650. Then I got my GTX 670 wheee.gif

How is the 670?? I just got my 680 and almost got the 670 to save money, kinda wish I would have because I have heard amazing things about it. And did you ever replace the thermal paste on your 570? I had a 9800gt starting do this years back and the thermal paste was like dried pink cardboard..

The 670 is a great card. With the right board and cpu, I get some good numbers and oc with it.

And if you were wondering, the HAB stands for High Airflow Bracket and the MFC stands for Mirror Finish Cover/Cooler
