Hey guys Im back to bug you again. I have windows server 2003 instead of XP first of all.

I have an 680 that will do 1250 area on clock and cpu that can do 5.3 Ghz with it. this is all on water. I keep getting 200K results in W7 but I can't run the darned thing in 2003 for some reason!. It's ticking me the heck off too.

Any help would be awesome!

Also I will be getting cas 7 RAM soon as well.

Because windows 2003 DirectX isn't going to be fully enabled.

I have to ask this, why are you trying to bench on windows 2003 server? It's not going to be a good representation since it's running DX9 I think it is along with being a server OS it's not going to be great for gaming.

Also, CAS7 memory won't do anything for your gaming, to be honest I doubt it'll do much of anything for you other than make a hole in your wallet. You'll only see the improvement on synthetic benchmarks.

So you were getting bootmgr errors when you installed windows 7 or something?

Tell me more about why you're using 2003 and you couldn't get 7 installed.

Got it backwards. I have w7 working just fine. I couldn't get xp to work correctly and kept getting boot mgr errors with only xp. With 2003 no issues.

Ahhh right

yeah that's an easy one actually, it's because the windows XP boot manager can't read the windows 7 partitions and vice versa and you have to make the drive and then use Easy BCD to configure the bootloader.

Instructions are here

www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/8057-dual-boot-installation-windows-7-xp.html

As for your windows 2003 server issue, you can try the following

http://www.visualwin.com/DirectX/

If that doesn't work, remove windows 2003 server and follow the instructions for windows xp dual boot.

Thank you sir! Will do once I get back to my rig. What exactly is it that makes xp the amazing bencher? The dx it runs?

Pretty much,

It runs directx9 which basically requires less processing power. So, if you use something like DX9 on a 7970 it's going to fly because it's designed to run on older, slower cards. DX11 has extra features and eye candy which makes it more processor intensive.

Aquamark runs better on Win7, as long as you perform the necessary tweaks to get it to work properly. There is a sticky thread I made to take you through the process whether you are on XP or Win7. There is also a new wrapper for HWBot coming out soon.

On the topic of OS installs, always install in the order oldest to newest if you are using the same drive but partitioned due to the bootloaders.

DirectX is a feature of the software, not of the OS. (Though some DX versions are too new for old OSes) The DX version that runs is hard coded, and often adjusted in the options. It isn't 'automatically' adjusted to your card/OS and then takes those options away from you.

Eg There's a very good reason why 3DMark Vantage doesn't work on XP, because the benchmark itself is not DX9. If you download the beta of the new 3DMark12, it has a DX9,DX10 and DX11 mode.
