Dual Channel 6GB Laptop?

Thread Starter
Just got a laptop from Dell outlet. It comes with 6GB of ram. So I assume its 1 stick of 2GB and 1 stick of 4GB. So it will be single channel. I wanted to upgrade to 8GB of ram but after looking at the service manual for the Dell 13Z you have to remove the keyboard and lots of other crap to get to the memory. Which I really don't want to do. So would running single channel memory be a big hit compared to dual channel?

2GB + 2GB (of the 4) will be dual channel the remaining 2GB will be flex.

Flex mode
Flex mode results in both dual- and single- channel operation across the whole of DRAM memory. The figure below shows a flex mode configuration using two DIMMs. The operation is as follows:

The 2 GB DIMM in slot 1 and the lower 2 GB of the DIMM in the slot 2 operate together in dual-channel mode.
The remaining (upper) 2 GB of the DIMM in Slot 2 operates in single-channel mode.

this^^^ is correct, your RAM will run in flex mode

that link explains alot in different RAM channeling and i have used it a lot to help people understand the topic more.

so in the eand you wont take much of a hit at all and would'nt notice any difference smile.gif
