Just wanted to ask is someone knows.

How much can a single MOLEX 4 pin or SATA Power deliver ?

Can a single 4 pin molex power 4 x 3,5'' hdd ?
What specifications am i suppose to look for ?

For instance i know a single Power Adjust 2 can power up to 25W of fans.
At 12 V that means 2 Amperes worth of fans.
I look at fan amperage and i do the math.

Is there something similar when taking in account power from a molex/sata connector ?

For instance, just an example:
A Molex connector can deliver up to 13 Ampers of power. A hdd will use 3 amperes. That means a molex can power 4 hdd.
So that you know what i meant.

What i#m trying here to do is obvioulsy built the system with bought non modified components. Because i allready know what to plug where to plug before i order the components.
When i'll be home i'll take a look at the sleeve cables guide.
Don't know what to say now. Having Custom length cable would sure be nice, but i don't know what it involves cost wise. Besides, i have no knowledge of wiring soldering, melting, or whatever, and i'm afraid i might end up burning up something in the end.
That's why i', looking into ''pre made' solutions, like those bit fenix cables, which by the way seem nice well done.
Also evga cables are allready sleeved.
Perhaps i might give it a try doint a custom 3 pin shot cable for the aqua bus.
That seems something easy enough.

it would be around $150-200 for every piece of equiptment needed, and all the pieces... probably cheaper then buying sleaved cables tbh

It really comes down to the size wire you are using. You can find a lot of guides online for electricians and what gauge wire must be used to handle the current. It's typically not the connector that would ever fail....it the wire that would melt if fed too many amps. However, wire runs in PC's are usually so short that you can get away with just about anything. As a quick rule of thumb:

- use 26 awg or larger for fans
- use 22 awg if you are putting together a multi-fan power harness
- use 18 awg for everything else.

^ This. Wire and pins are cheap. The most expensive thing you would need is the crimper. You can pay as little as $20 and as much as $100 for a good crimper.

The smaller the AWG the thicker the Wire.

Why not use 18 AWG for all just to be on the safe side ?

it wont fit in the fan connectors too well at all... thats why we use 22 for fans (or atleast i do)

EDIT: watch those videos i linked to earlier... they should explain it all smile.gif

Iwatched most of the guides, and got the main idea. Looking now at the fan sleeving guide.

What i was intrested to see was, how to create custom length cables.
What he basically show is how to sleve cables that are allready made.

I need to see how one creates a brand new cable using bought wire, connector and stuff. ANy links on that ?
