Thread Starter
A friend is looking to buy beats headphone. The ones that are over the ear that retails for 200$ I told her that its not worth it. So can you guys recommend me some good ones (Bose, Sennheiser.) for around the same price. Thanks

I would recommend the Bose AE2i. I use them for many hours at a time without any problems. It also has a built in microphone if you want to skype someone.

What kinds of music is your friend into? This will help us choose some suitable headphones to recommend.

Try Sol Republic. They have a few models from $70 to $180.

I'd suggest Beyerdynamic, Audio Technica, Grado/Alessandro.

Beyer closed headphones (DT770/880/990s) for deep bass music (dubstep, rap, DnB, etc)
Audio Technica closed headphones are also a possibility for these as well.

Audio Technica Open Headphones (ATH-AD700/900) for vocal music or strings (Classical, folk, Opera)

Grados/Alessandros for Rock/Metal.

Why is the DT 880 more expensive then the 990?

DT880s don't produce enough bass to be enjoyable and prefers a particular amp to really get the bass going. The DT770s are a lower tier headphone, still better than Beats in every way, but you can get better for Beats price. DT990 is a fun headphone, but the treble is harsh and the bass is untamed. The HE-400s are an excellent headphone at 400 with amazing bass in impact and extension. Genre's like Pop, R&B, Hip-Hop will really shine. The headphone are dark, so the treble isn't an issue.

Only problem is they're kinda' heavy. They can put strain on her neck after a while. SOL Republics are trash, IMO. V-Moda looks nice, but honestly it sacrifices too much SQ. People only deal with it because they look so nice.
