Help Finding Best 2.1 Setup ~$300

Thread Starter
I'm looking to purchase a 2.1 setup for 100% music use. I want to go beyond typical "computer speakers." My budget is more or less $300. I mostly listen to Hip-Hop with the occasional Dubstep thrown in. The music may be played at relatively high volumes. I have no related equipment and would be willing to buy anything needed, whether it be an amp/receiver and speakers or just a set of powered speakers and a sub. I would be willing to purchase the speakers now and possibly add a sub later.

Please make your recommendations. Thanks!

I love my Pro-medias as well, however with a $300 budget you can do much better. I am thinking that some studio monitors should do the trick. I like the KRK Rokit 5 monitors, my buddy has them and they sound good, I also like the M-Audio BX5 D2's.

Everybody seems to love their Pro-medias. Ive thought about those. What do you think about the Audioengine A5's?

I know that the A2's are highly recommended here, the A5's seem to offer more bass from what I have read. I personally don't have any experience with either of them, but I would imagine they are very good for the price from what I have heard about them. Generally the M-Audio AV40's, the Audioengine A2's and the BX5's get brought up alot. I personally have dealt with the Rokit's and I enjoy them the most out of all the other monitors I have sampled in that price range, but my sampling is no where near as extensive as some of the other people on here.

You should check out this thread, its a sticky related to all the commonly recommended audio products, and reasons why they are recommended. http://www.overclock.net/t/1014902/ocns-most-recommended-audio-products
