[Build Log] "Revenge of the Switch" - Page 2

So today was a little case modding, and some wiring. First up: I had to open up the area in the top panel where the rad sits, so that the hoses could come through, I did that with a step bit, a drill, and a steady hand. I reamed both of the rectangular holes outwards from the center of the case as each only half exposed the 1/4" hole. The end result looks like this:

Next, since the 2 hybrid drives are inside the hard drive cage; I had to add a spot for my 2 Intel SSD's that arrived yesterday (still no fans arrived, I'm getting annoyed) I originally ordered one SSD, but newegg put the order through twice so instead of sending the second one back, why not raid them? I can't think of a reason not to!! I looked at a few places to put them and decided that the bottom of the upper hard drive cage would work best.

After removing the rails to attatch the second hard drive cage, I marked out the center line, and used the tooless hard drive mounting plasticy thingies (very technical term) as a template for the holes

Then I drilled the holes, and mounted the drives to the bottom of the cage.

After that, a dry fit into the case

Then wiring, and replacing the fan.

This started me on my wiring for the project, which didn't take too long, and I think turned out OK.

Also, my decal for the window came in today, so it HAD to go on!

Should look cool when I get the lights in after I pick them up tomorrow.

Started my leak test last night, so far 10 hours in and no issues. Filling and bleeding the system wasn't as involved as I thought. I pulled off the hose going to the top radiator from the cpu block and used it to fill the cpu block and 240mm bottom radiator as well as the associated tubing so I at least haf some water in the system in addition to filling the reservoir. Then, after reattatching the hose to the top radiator, filled the reservoir and started the pump. For the test I'm running the pump off of a 12v power supply that I used to use for testing in my car audio days. (I used to do sound quality competitions and was a world finalist). To bleed most of the air out of the system I simply cycled the pump a few times and kept filling the reservoir as it went down.

Thanks!! I still wanted to use the optical bay so I tried this and it worked. I still have to see if I can get the top slider to fit with a little grinding of the stiffening ribs under the slats byt I am optimistic!!

So this morning I got inspired to mod the sliding vent cover so I could use it. The XSPC EX360 is in the top like this,

So the moving part of the top of the case doesn't fit naturally.

I started by scoring the ribs on the underside with a knife (pvc breaks pretty cleanly along scoring lines) and cutting at the sides, then snapped them off clean nice and close to the top, it worked very nicely.

After that I ran into problems with the finger lots for the handle, so I had to cut them down so that they would clear the radiator:

Overall, it came out pretty well I'd say!

I also got the LED lights installed, I used 2 2m sleeved LED strings from NZXT for the job, one red, one white.

The red LED string is wrapped in the motherboard, video cards etc to provide a nice glow from underneath:

Then the white string went on the side panel to edge light the window:

the extra LEDs on the end of the string were taped over with black tape, there was more than enough left over to reach the power unit.

lit pics will come when the leak test is done and the psu is powered up

48 hour leak test done, thinking about red tubing now instead of white. Anyone think the red would work better than white with the way it looks?

I think the white tubing looks great.
