ALL RIGHT,
First time ever building a PC from ground up.
What I'll be using it for:
  • Editing HD video with Premiere Pro and After Effects
  • Gaming (Your standard FPS's; Battlefield, Counter-Strike, Cod4, etc...oh and Arma biggrin.gif)
  • 3D Animation with Maya, Mudbox, and Source Filmmaker(?)
Here's what I'm aiming for--and will go into MicroCenter looking to purchase on Sunday:
  • i7-3770K Processor
  • DZ77SL-50K Mobo Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H LGA
  • NVIDIA GTX 670
  • Obsidian 650D Case (Made by Corsair) Corsair Graphite Series 600T Gaming Case- Special Edition White
  • (4) 4 GB DDR3 RAM Sticks (Probably Corsair, if I can help it) (2x) Samsung 8GB DDR3-1600 Kit (2x 4GB)
  • Crucial M4 256 GB SATA SSD @ 6 Gb/s
  • Red 3TB 3.5" SATA @ 6 Gb/s Green 3TB IntelliPower SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5"
  • Corsair Enthusiast 850W ATX PSU Corsair Builder Series CX500 500W PSU Rosewill CAPSTONE-450 450W PSU
  • Cooler Master 212

If you would like, please leave a comment--as I'm probably doing EVERYTHING WRONG--or a question--such as "WHO LET THIS GUY IN THE FORUMS!?"--. I would LOVE some tips from the pr0s!

Looks good but I would get a better board. Check out the Gigabyte Z77-UD5H or a Z77 Sabortooth is another good board.

You got an OS as well?

Do not forget to install the motherboard standoffs.

PSU is serious overkill. a good (corsair is fine) 500W is much more appropriate for what you've listed.

What CPU cooler? if an H100i fits (looks like it should), I'd suggest that.

Overall I think this fine. I dont know what you are using it for, so that would help. If you never plan to SLI that 670, I would probably drop it down to an AX650 or Seasonic X-650. I also prefer Gigabyte or Asus motherboards. I also am not sure which drive you are looking at, but 6gbps spindle disk drives are gimmicks, as they are not capable of doing 6 gbps speeds. If they sell 3 gbps drives for cheaper, go that route.

Also make sure right after you install your OS to your SSD to remap your documents, pictures, etc to your 3TB drive. Right click on the folder (lets say documents) and click properties. Then Click the location tab and change it to your 3TB. Make sure you select the appropriate folder (create documents oflder on the 3TB and select that for docs).

I'm mainly going to be using the SSD for games, and rendering and writing video. Will that change how or where I should set my destinations?

No way the 670 needs 600W. Newegg may say it does, but they suggest overkill PSUs in case you get a junk one that isnt efficient. a quality 500W PSU would be more than fine. I like to go with the modular ones for cable management, but it isnt necessary.

Acknowledged. I made a edit to the original post.
As to Cards, I pretty much picked the 670 cause seemed to get around the fps I wanted for cheap enough. What's the difference between it and the 650?
