Which tablet allows me to read my own pdfs?

Hi all,

I am interested in buying a tablet, but what I will not do, is buy a tablet and get told to read stuff that can only be downloaded by amazon, google books, or any other sad dedicated "service".

However, I will pay for a tablet that allows me to load up my library of colored and grey scale pdfs. Obviously I will do some basic browsing also, but that's about it.

Which tablet will allow me to read what I already have?

Thanks

I was talking to a friend that bought the previous version of the kindle and told me it was a nightmare to try to do this - to me this is just unacceptable.

An normal ipad is a bit too much for what I need it to do, plus its battery life would be pretty short.

So what other suggestions you guys have, based on fact?

I use the Nexus 7 and I'm in college so I need the ability to use Excel, Word, .py files, and pdf's for my books. I use the Kingsoft Office app on my tablet and phone and libreoffice on Linux Mint and dropbox for cloud storage. With all of these I can view pdf's, write Excel and Word on my tablet and be able to upload them to Blackboard from anywhere. Plus the Nexus is only $250 and is small enough and light enough that I can take it anywhere.

Edit: And the battery life for the Nexus 7 is over 8+ hours to this point biggrin.gif I use it for music, steam, and chrome and it last for a very very long time.

i can a do read my own word doc converted to PDF's and other PDF's on my Samsung galaxy tablet. i have no problems even tho it is an older 7.1" version.. you should be able read on any tablet with a pdf reader. i could understand kindles being a nightmare due to amazon. not sure about newer kindles, but there are alot of android devices out their that can do this.

So, I will basically need to stick to androids - which I am fine with.

Which device has a simple "plug in to your desktop and download pdf files" functionality?

i am not sure about all except samsungs such as SGIII and my tablet. all i have to do is connect the same cable used to charge the battery (it disconnects from the little transformer box) into a USB port and from there its just like a USB drive and can copy and paste. thats from personal experience, others can tell you more about other devices but all should have something similar to what i described

Pretty much every Android device is able to do what you have requested, just need to find one in your price range, what exactly is your budget?

Normal iPads work fine for your purposes, and the battery life should be at least as good as the Nexus. That said, the Nexus is very nice indeed, and a whole lot cheaper. I have all my manuals in .pdf in dropbox, and use the iPad to read them. Really useful, as I don't have to keep paper manuals much any more, and I can read them where they're needed on the iPad.

My budget is as low as possible. I have a desktop to do the heavy duty stuff and a laptop. I am covered in that sense.

Absolute max I'd say 250 gbp.
