Windows 8 startup programs no longer showing in taskmanager ?

Thread Starter
Have a laptop that has windows 8 was not used to start menu so i downloaded a start button program, didnt like it so uninstalled it. The only issue I have now is that programs no longer show up in the startup area of task manager.

If anyone knows how to fix this that would be great thanks.

Weird , just for testing can put a program in start-up folder and see if you get it appear in Task manger
Code:
%appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

copy & paste the above code in Run Command and create a shortcut in the above folder for any of your app

you can create folder under
Code:
%appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

named startup

or open registry editor (regedit)

navigate to
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

then on right panel , right click select New > String Value , name it anything you want
then double click the newly created value and now add the full path of the app you want to start under Value data filed

log off and log in see if you can see any entries

Note : Need Admin rights to do the above step

Funny thing is I have come across some programs that dont have that option anywhere. Thanks for the info.... I just want to really fix it and have them show correctly. When it comes to stuff like this i have OCD and really need to find the root cause of it. biggrin.gif

hmm try this

You can edit startup items directly in the registry, go to start -> run -> regedit and go to
Code:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

and
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

...then just append /MINIMIZED to any program listed on startup.
