Wife wants machine off at night

Thread Starter
Is there any point in doing some folding even though my wifey won't let me run my rig (it's in my bedroom) after we go to bed?

Also, is it viable to do this on your main computer, rather than a dedicated machine? Does it have an effect on gaming, photoshop, etc.? Thanks.

Yes, any folding is good
For most it's best to suspend the folding when running intesive programs like gaming. Otherwise it will give up CPU power for other programs, with gaming it can cause you to go to the desktop while gaming. I'm surfing while folding right now

It has interfeared with almost every game I have tried to play with it on, you will probally have to turn it off if you want to game. Otherwise it worked fine alongside everyday things.

Really? Everything works fine for me. The only game it used to mess with is BF2. I'm not sure if its still an issue. You can just close it before you game, no big deal. Folding all day besides at night is great. You do not need a dedicated machine.

The screen saver mode of folding interferes with any game that uses Opengl. The console version runs quietly in the background and turns itself off when anything else is running on your computer and thereby does not interfere with anything. So run away on that main machine - you won't even know its running except when you see your points piling up..

I would have to move it to the garage--all other major locations are taken. We're bursting out of our 1,700 sq. ft. home. What I need is a bigger house with an office. I'm working on that

Simple solution really, make your computer silent, run cool and consume minimal power. That way she really won't have anything to complain about having it on at night, my PC sits atop my desk about 3 feet from my head when I sleep but its so quiet and has zero visible lights, sometimes I forget its on!

hmm... mine is 10 feet away when i sleep, loud, and has lights as well as it is sticking out from my desk because it's not underneath my desk.
