Laptop Graphics card upgrade

Thread Starter
Hey OCN, I was just wandering if it was at all possible to upgrade the video card of a laptop. I purchased an MSI CX 640 laptop for cheap and it has a 520m video card in it. Is it possible to swap the card for something better? or is it just integrated and that's it..?

most graphic cards in a laptop are imbedded to the motherboard so it is what it is.
your options are http://lifehacker.com/5851902/turn-a-low+powered-laptop-into-a-gaming-machine-with-an-external-video-card-dock
http://allenpan.wordpress.com/2011/11/11/show-off-external-universal-gpu/ continue reading it through he build case and shows you the parts

http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/External_Graphics_Card/XG_Station/ this is the best option, this can also be swap for another gpu card

Unfortunately the 520m is an embedded GPU. So everlast has the right idea. I'm not sure how crazy I am about those external GPU rigs, but i haven't looked into them much. I guess its a good solution if you have the right connector to allow as much bandwidth for the card to utilize.
