Please help me choose a graphics card

Thread Starter
Hey everyone, I am a long-time browser of the forums here, but this is my first post.

I am trying to find a new graphics card for my computer. I do not need anything that is ridiculous for gaming, as the only games I really play are Fable and Final Fantasy 7 (using HD mods). This is mostly a Media Center PC: I have a CableCard TV Tuner to watch and record TV, and I also do a lot of video editing and rendering. My main focus is noise; as this is a HTPC, I would prefer a very quiet card, and the one I have now is anything but that. I also need something with both DVI and HDMI outputs (although I don't think they make anything without those 2 anymore). Budget-wise, I would like to keep it under $150.

My PC Specs are:

Intel Core i7 2600K
ASUS P8Z68-VPRO/GEN3 1155 ATX
Corsair Hydro H80 Liquid CPU Cooler
8GB DDR3 Ram
60GB SSD for OS/Programs
1TB WD HDD and 2TB SeaGate HDD for storage, both 7200RPM

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would be looking at a 650Ti, the Gigabyte windforce ones are pretty quiet at low RPM, just create a custom fan profile in Afterburner or Precision to keep the RPMs down.

Why get a old Gen card. Get a 7850 at the least.

I really don't do a ton of gaming on my PC, or at least not newer games that would push the limits of newer (or even older) cards. So a 7850 would be overkill, and I'm not looking to spend quite that much.

What you ended up with should work quite well actually. Its roughly on par with a 4870 which will play all older games just fine.

The first problem I see is the GTX 650 would have been a better choice, same performance but lower power consumption and noise.

The other thing would be spending a little more ($30-$70) would have netted you a 650Ti/7850 which is just better price/performance ratio.

Overall you should be satisfied with what you got, just maybe not the best pick.
