H60 Leaking onto Fan?

Thread Starter
Hey experts I have a question for you. I purchased an H60 about 3 months ago. I took it out of my case to inspect and clean it today and noticed there was a small amount of residue around the inside perimeter of the fan. It appears some of the liquid leaked out of the radiator and the fan slung it to the edge. It was not a lot, just a small sprinkle all the way around the fan. I inspected the radiator very well and there is no leaks. What could have caused this? Should I be worried?

Thanks
Cody

I don't see how it could leak a bit and just completely stop after that. How small are we talking?
If you see temps increase or more leaking, just RMA it. I'd RMA it now just to be safe. Last thing you want is it to flow to your GPU and other components.

Is the fluid viscous or sticky/oily? A few people have noticed that the fans included with their close-loop coolers sometimes leaks the oil that lubes the fan bearings. You should take the fan off the H60 and inspect for any oil leakage near the fan hub.

I wish I had taken a picture of the fan before I wiped it off. It was droplets about the size of a grain of salt. There were roughly about 25 to 30 of them. I was wondering by chance if it was residue that was left over when the radiator was made. Running my pc heated it up "liquefying it" allowing the fan to suck it out of the radiator. The weird thing is, it is on the backside of the push fan, and not the front of the pull fan.

Crazy theory.
Radiator issues?

It was definitely oily!

That makes since considering the location of it on the inside perimeter of the fan.

I had the same issue with my h100 when i first got it. They put to much oil in the fans before packaging them. Should go away after awhile of use

I'm going to guess it's lubricant from the fan motor, not a leak in the radiator. You can check it a bit better though by taking it out of your case and testing it with a jumpered PSU, so you don't have to risk your components. Look for leaks in the radiator, maybe run it so its flat on a counter top or something, with a paper towel under it so you can see leakage more easily.

I believe you are correct. I can not see any fluid on the inside of the fan hub, but it only makes since this is where it is leaking from.

It is also backed up by only being on the push fan and not the pull fan as well.
