Need help with new build $600

Thread Starter
Hello again all. I am looking to start a new intel build and would like some help. I am going to be purchasing my parts from Canada Computers and looking to spend around $600 before tax but would be more happy if I could keep it at $600 after tax. I am looking for a desktop with mild gaming capabilities and good video editing/encoding properties.

I have put together a mockup build of what I think would be good. It cost $650 before tax

I DO NOT NEED AN OS, OPTICAL DRIVE, MONITOR, SPEAKERS OR KEYBOARD/MOUSE.

Please help optimize the performance and price of my new rig thanks! All input will be considered...

Antec ONE S3 Elite Black Gaming computer case: 39.99
Thermaltake TR2 600W Cable Management psu: 24.99
Mushkin Chronos 60GB SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive: 69.99
Seagate Barracuda (ST31000524AS) SATA3 6.0Gb/s 1TB 32MB Cache (OEM): 49.99
Intel Core i5-2300 Quad-Core Socket LGA1155: 169.88
ASRock B75M-GL Socket 1155 Intel B75 Chipset: 59.99
Kingston HyperX Genesis 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz CL9 DIMMs, w/XMP : 29.99
ASUS (HD7850-DC2-2GD5-V2) AMD Radeon HD 7850 2GB GDDR5: 209.99

Looking to purchase next weekend....

Looks good thumb.gifI think you're overpaying for that 7850. Here's one for 185$ from Powercolor and it also has 2gb:

Asus doesn't make good quality components at all so there's not much point in paying more.

EDIT: I just noticed you want to edit videos. In multithreaded apps the piledriver cpus are beast in comparison to Intel; thought I would mention that.

Are the new FX processors good for gaming and cheaper? or am I looking at the same costs...

Would really like to be able to play most games on medium-medium high settings (Like a console).

If you ask an Intel fan, no. If you ask me who has an FX8120, yes. It is true you loose a few fps (3-5) when gaming because often games use one core so the other ones are sitting there idling. Video and photo editing programs use more than one core because they are multithreaded and use extra fpu extensions such as AVX in which Piledriver/Bulldozers are superior.

So basically if you want good gaming performance and reasonable editing go Intel.

If you want reasonable gaming performance and good photo/video editing performance go AMD.

Just so you know a 6570 beats a console in terms of graphics easily if It's not a console port. Consoles are technologies used 7 years ago.

Ooo 600$ can get u MUCH MORE than console. As I said.. What games do you plan to play?

For multithreaded programs like bf3, max payne or crysis AMD is way better. In Dirt 3 these cpus rank equally and in Skyrim the i5 3570k beats the 8350. I know these CPUs are out of your budget but it gives you an idea what cpu is better in which games.

I'll probably get the 8350 then. could you recommend mobo within the budget?

P.s I am from Canada and I will be trying to purchase everything locally from Canada Computers if possible. I have decided to wait until Boxing day (December 26th, to purchase) All the help I can get will be greatly appreciated.
