Nope, when it comes to gaming Intel leads the way, just like that have been for the last couple of years.

3570K OC'ed to 4.x ghz would be your best bet.

If you had to go with AMD though, the FX 83xx are the second gen of FX, their new architecture. Basically made up of eight slow cores, that can't even beat the Intel quad cores.

I would say probably the Phenom II 965. OC it to atleast 4.0ghz would be descent. that or a FX-8350.

If you are purely speaking gaming, Intel is epeen and AMD is economical.

Intel procs are quite a bit faster right now, much better clock for clock. But whats the difference between 100fps and 200 fps? Thats what it is. Well built AMD system can do anything an intel system can. Just.... not as good.

Intel is like..... a Veyron! Fastest! 250+ mph

AMD is like..... a DB9 Not as fast, only 190. Still..... 190 is FAST!

Plus intel supports internet censorship, CISPA, ACTA, SOPA, PIPA ISPA, and illegal business practices. Either way, both platforms can yield powerful builds. Good luck! thumb.gif

If you gaming is your primary goal, yes I would consider Intel as a viable alternative. Especially because you're starting from the ground up.
