FX-8350 worth it for gaming? - Page 20

Im running my 8350 at 4.71/1.4250v CPUNB/HTlink 2519/1.9750v with pretty decent temps...61'on the chip and 55' core. All this occt tested for 13 hours whitout errors on a Antec 920 khuler and mx2 thermal paste.I do think with a H100 i can acheive 4.8 4.9 whit the same temp.but this is theorical.(M5a99xEvo)Even at this speed my chip bottleneck my gtx 680 under rare circumstance..but overall give me really nice performance...I plan to upgrade for sli to.I think in near future those 8 core will become handy in gaming(amd chip in next gen console with 8 core)And even with 2xgtx 680 im pretty sure the 8350 as still power under the hood to give nice performance. Its true single threading lack a little comprare to some I5 but future is not single threading...juste have to look at the big game this year BF3 Crysis etc etc....so my opinion....8350 is good for gaming and will be even more good in the near future...but still....if you have a little more money to invest on a I7.....great...if not forget the I5 and get a 8350....No I5 support hyperthreading!
People can correct me if im wrong!Thats only my opinion after all!

One thing I've noticed is that the big crowd funded games are supposed to have full multi-core functionality. If you're going to play something like Star Citizen or Planetary Annihilation, I can imagine the 8350 giving the best i7 everything it can handle and then some.

Oh, and about AMD being delisted, stop spreading that lie. I swear, it won't be pretty if I have to keep busting the misconceptions spread on this forum about economics and trading.

How did you achieve these #'s. I've got a I've got an m5a99fx pro 2.0.. with custom watercooling. I haven't had to OC the chip because 5970 only uses 50% of the 8350 at ultra resolution 1680x1050. Was thinking about popping these settings in to try it out and see if I see aperformance difference.

BF3 and Crysis uses all the cores...you are correct. I'm not sure why the intel people here say that these games are single core games. Maybe the physics calculations is what's being spread out on the 8350? What do you think? I haven't tried to turn off physics, I think there's probably a way to do it in bf3, just to test the theory.

Dude. Nobody ever said that theyre SINGLE CORE games. Just that they cannot use 8 cores. And thats a fact, not something the mean old intel fanboys made up. If the physics calculations (somewhat THE thing that actually loads the cpu during gaming) was done over 8 cores, the FX-8350 would VIOLATE intel cpus in BF3..

..they dont.

Im still keeping myself updated on this thread because I actually WANT to be talked over to the AMD side. There are many perks with running a 8350, not only the cores. The AM-boards are cheaper and has better support for USB-3, better SATA-ports etc etc etc.

Keep an eye out for the next Piledriver Revision which is just around the corner. There could be some decent updates again (Bulldozer vs Piledriver was just a revision)

If you are into MMO's I've played a couple Alpha/Beta's of new ones (can't actually say which ones yet) and there was up to seven cores being used (Full 30% usage accross all 7)
Might not see that in FPS yet.

To answer your question simply OP. I have a system very similar to what your original question was all about FX8350 > GTX680 > 16Gb ram > SSD etc. So to answer without being too complicated, yes the FX8350 is great for gaming on.

I have over 25 games that i play at varying times and i have no issues whatsoever with the system. The games are all set from high to ultra with more than acceptable fps ( 40+ Minimum ), with both the cpu & gpu matching each other well. Outside of gaming the cpu handles all tasks from a wide range of apps without any slow down or issue. Multitasking may or may not be of importance but the cpu handles multiple tasks with ease. So simply put the FX8350 makes a great little gaming machine, and you will not need to reach 5Ghz to get even more out of it, a happy 4.5- 4.8Ghz is more than enough.

But TBH either way you decide to go whether Intel 3570K or FX8350, you will be happy with the results of either system. The choice my friend is yours smile.gif

On the 8350 overclocking is more for benchmarking than gaming.....since the actual difference is around 10% while Being highly OC like mine.Today im building my father machine with the m5a99x evo 2.0 and hyper x Kingston 1866.you can imagine he wont oc and even at stock clock he will be amazed by the performance compare to hes old q5;)Playing farcry3 on a old Q5 isint something we can call fluid and fun. i cant wait to play coop with im with is new machine ....
