optical to headphones...

Thread Starter
Short version: I want to take my optical out from my xbox 360, convert it to analog so i can hook up my headphones and enjoy simulated surround sound.

Long version: i am looking to get new headset so i can have it hooked up to my pc and xbox 360 at the same time. I think i have finally settled on Sennheiser PC360.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826106474

I am looking for a device that will take the optical out from the xbox 360 and simulate surround sound to the headphones. Alot of gaming headphones for console have a device that take the optical and convert it for the headphones.
For example :
http://www.turtlebeach.com/product-detail/xbox-headsets/ear-force-dx12/57

Those dx12 come with the little box in the picture labeled DSS2 that do exactly what i want. Only problem is you cant buy that separately. Dose anyone know of a device that can take a optical input and simulate surround sound to headphones? i have been searching for a while now and i cant find anything to fit my needs. if you have any ideas to solve my dilemma, i would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for reading.

You're looking for a USB Soundcard basically. I wouldn't recommend anything under the DSS2 TBH. Anything less any it's all pretty much the same most likely. IDK if you can use optical, as most of these use USB.

Here's a cheaper one though. http://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-Siberia-Sound-Card-White/dp/B000WJCM9G

another option: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10850&cs_id=1080910&p_id=9771&seq=1&format=2

i've never used it so i have no idea how well it works (headphones nor the DH surround sound processor). if you didn't like the headphones you can sell them to recoup some of the cost and use the surround processor with the PC360's your eying.

it looks like that connector is for the volume control cable, which terminates in a 3.5mm female connector. this is shown better in the last photo of all the accessories. but i don't have the thing sitting in front of me, so just basing off the photos.
