Actually.. The Source engine's origins are also from that of the Quake engine. tongue.gif

But it's based on the GoldSrc engine which is derived from the Quake 1 engine. So at this point it's a heavily modified version of an engine that was heavily modified from the Quake 1 engine. It is so far removed at this point that it doesn't even feel like the quake engine whereas the CoD engine still has distinct relations to the newer Quake 3 engine upon which it is based.

I said valve uses the same engine as in the same one for years, not the same one as call of duty. Although the origins of both are the same so....

Regardless of where the engines came from they have both been using the same rehashed engine's for years, but yet yet CoD is the only one that catches grief. People say it looks like crap but I continually post screenshots proving it actually looks decent.

Treyrch is actually implementing DX11 in theirs, granted only some features but still looks great. I can think of allot more AAA titles that look way worse, yet we don't have hordes of people flooding those threads to bash it with the same troll comments "Hurr durr CoD sucks same engine, derpy derpy."

I think Valve is a money grubbing "expletive" of a company for still milking the crap out of TF2, and all the pathetic hat crap, yet I don't seek out TF2 threads just to make that statement.

Gameplay? You can play CoD and jump right into quake and with the same mouse settings feel right at home with all the movement. The whole game just feels familiar. Even the config system works almost identically between Quake and CoD. But my point is that there's virtually no engine similarities between the Source engine now and the CoD engine now aside from their dominant use in successful online FPS games. I just feel they are too far removed from eachother to be considered "the same engine" for quality comparisons.
