OC Fail - PC won't run anymore

Thread Starter
Hello!

My problem:

Tried to overclock CPU (Inter Core 2 Quad Q6600) so changed MHz from 266 x 9 =2394 (2400 MHz) to 333 x 9 = 2997 (3000 MHz)

I made some research before jumping to changing settings in BIOS and the CPU should be able to run 3 GHz with ease, no voltage changes needed to be made. Okay, I think you already know what happened - it wouldn't start. Well took it apart and back together and it started with no problem. Got to Windows and it crashed. Again it won't start without unplugging it for a few minutes.

I realize that there is a problem with in my settings in BIOS so I go there and set everything back to normal, factory settings. Get to Windows and it once again crashes. And now this happens with no changes in BIOS with the same settings I've been using the PC for over 2 years (or something like that). Same thing, I have to unplug it for a while for it to start (and it won't even start every time).

So guys - I need your help biggrin.gif What's the problem? Is there still something in BIOS that needs tweaking?

Also I changed up the slots for the RAM.

Heres my setup;

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2,4 GHz

MSI P45 Platinium

Asus Nvidia 9600 GT

Yea, this will happen alot, Try to clear the CMOS as stated above and over clock in smaller chunks up to where you want.

Yeah, I know those tricks should do it, but I've taken the battery out and I even got to BIOS and clicked the "load setup defaults". That should've reseted CMOS. I even checked the Cell Menu or what ever it was called and the changes I made had been turned to defaults.

So I think that the problem is not solvable by just reseting CMOS :S

By board you mean the Motherboard right? It's MSI P45 Platinum as I said in the first post.

Thanks

can you run it in safe mode?

Didn't help biggrin.gif Tried both RAMs in different slots.

There's no error code. It just dies. And if you try to start it after it goes shut it won't.
