Need help on upgrade

Thread Starter
I recently built a budget pc and am now looking to upgrade it, The current specs are:

Intel Pentium G620 Sandy Bridge 2.6GHz LGA 1155
Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 (1x4gb)
CORSAIR Builder Series CX500 500W 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified
ASUS - Nvidia GT 440 1gb GDDR5
ASUS P8H61-M LE/CSM R2.0 LGA 1155 Intel H61 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
CoolerMaster Hyper 212 PLUS cpu cooler
NZXT Source 210 case

(Other information not needed i assume, if needed i will post)

Now i have roughly $250 to upgrade this pc at this very moment, and i was wondering if i should
upgrade the CPU or GPU first, i will be able to upgrade the other one in a few months so i just
wanted to be sure to get the right upgrade first tongue.gif

If you monitor is 1080p or less, you can get decent performance boost with these upgrades:
CPU: Intel i3-2120
GPU: Nvidia 650Ti

Kindly note that your board is good but all H61 chipsets don't allow overclocking and for your requirements, the i3 is a very decent choice.
And here's how your 440 compares to the awesome little 650Ti:

Thanks for the fast reply, I can upgrade these at seperate times, the thing was i can spend $250 now and around the same in a month or two, So its $250 on both upgrades basically, I wanted to know which cpu / gpu would put up the best performance at $250 each and which to upgrade first as i will be waiting a month or two before upgrading the other

I would upgrade to an i5-3570k first, and then next month when you can spend another $250 I would grab a GTX 660 and another 4GB of Corsair Vengeance.

Edit: Either the GTX 660 or a 7870 would be your best bet.

If you were only gaming I would say invest in a GPU as games are still more GPU bound than CPU. If you are video editing you would get more bang for buck out of a CPU upgrade and I would have to agree with Gamez that a 3570k would be awesome. Good luck spending your money biggrin.gif

I would recommend getting a GPU upgrade 1st, by the time you have the money for the CPU, the new 1150 chipset (& CPUs) will be 'could be' out and you might get a new mobo+new i3 for less than 250$.

GPU choices under 250$:
Best Nvidia 660 GTX:
EVGA
Gigabyte
MSI

Best AMD 7870:
Sapphire
Gigabyte
XFX

Here's how they compare:

Currently, the best CPU for gaming (which overclocks too) is the 3570k. For your mobo, I'd get the i5-3570 (which is the same but doesn't overclock).
