Having Trouble Booting from a CD

Thread Starter
I'm trying to boot from a Ubunty LiveCD because I need to delete some files in the Windows installation that will not budge.

My problem is that Windows keeps booting. I've tried several boot combinations. I've tried Disk Drive, HDD, USB and it booted to windows.

I've also tried LS120 (Floppy), Disk drive, Legacy LAN and it still booted to Windows without there even being the option to boot to a HDD... =/

I know that my motherboard is capable of booting from a CD as that is how I've installed Windows.

I have also booted into this LiveCD before but not on this current installation of Windows. This is a new installation of Windows on an SSD. And that's why I'm having to boot into the LiveCD to get rid of some of the old Windows files that don't seem to want to delete in this Windows install.

Anyways, is there any reason why it's not booting from the CD? For what it's worth it is an older version of Ubuntu (9.10 - Karmic Koala), but I don't see why that would matter. And, yes, the CD does still work I can launch the installer from inside Windows.

At post a computer looks to the BIOS to find a bootabledevice.
If none is found ,next it searches everything connected to the motherboard, that's when it's finding your Windows installation.

Either the drive isn't configured in the BIOS, or it's not bootable. Note that in the BIOS you have to set BOTH the type of drive and which one of that type of drive to be the boot device.

There's also a small possibility that you may need a firmware update foro the optical drive to make it bootable under Win7 (and later).

I tried again last night but with a Live USB install of Linux and that booted on it's first try. I don't know what was wrong with the CD boot. rolleyes.gif

Glad you got it working smile.gif
When that issue comes up my method of choice is to only enable the optical drive and no other devices... usually works.
