Glfops measured on intel burn test v2 with 8gb of 1333mhz ram. 2500k is at 3.6ghz because its on the stock intel heatsink which can be confirmed below. I order wc stuff and should be here on saturday, so i can get it up much higher.

I am glad you asked that Elomen. I have been curious as well, but my path has been Commodore 64, Apple IIe, P150, P233, AMD 64+, AMD Phenom II x2, and now the upcoming I5 (3570k). To be honest I feel like AMD has been slowly losing steam for awhile. Vendor support for them is one reason why I am going to convert. Thanks to the responders that answered the question seriously.

Hmm..IME..The Sandy/Ivy bridge quad cpus provide a smoother gaming experience..about 7-12 more FPS and smoother gameplay.However..they are slower than an overclocked Deneb/Thuban when web surfing for some reason. You click something and like..10 seconds later you're wondering where your browser is.
I really wouldn't even consider newer AMD chips for gaming or..really anything except server use.I do prefer the Deneb/Thubans for the everyday use smoothness. For gaming,a 4+ Ghz Deneb/Thuban is quite adequate;even in the really cpu-intensive stuff (maybe NOT ARMA2) but everything else= OK..pretty good, even.An overclocked phenom2 quad/hex will outmuscle those dual-core/hyperthreading chips in games like GTA..ARMA..Probly BF3 multi..etc..Oh,..and i was messing around the other day and was getting 80 GFLOPS with a Thuban biggrin.gif

It's a full-bodied experience, sharp, but with a little bit of zest all wrapped up in a savory and lush pallet.

The new stuff is awesome, and the old stuff is great for most users.

You have people that watch the speed of every operation and you also have those that are in some kind of world where they do not know any better.I have a woman friend who has a used laptop (a gift from her mother). This thing runs Win 7 (barely) only has 2 gb RAM, it literaly has 7 different address/search bars,2 anti virus apps.I tried to run CCleaner and it ended up taking 1029 seconds to do its work.I told her all that was wrong and offered to work it over. She still did not believe things could be better.I had a plan.I brought to her house a fresh loaded desktop rig with Win 7-64 e7200 4 gb RAM,8800gpu,500gb Baracudda, nothing so exotic.I asked her to use it for a while and then tell me again that her laptop is running correctly. She uses her laptop within feet of her wireless modem but I cannot convince her to simply plug in an ethernet cable and put the wireless to rest.It is like I am up against that little baby in the commercial that does not want to save 50.00.

i hope/wonder if youre getting faster ram. mine stock 3.3ghz and 1600mhz 9-9-9-24 back in march. amazing what faster ram alone does.

Then something was wrong with your OC on the AMD. Without even trying I get ~48Gflops at 3.6ghz/2.6ghzNB. Ram is 1600mhz 7-8-7-24-1t.

My Nehalem is clocked around 3.5ghz and gets 50.5-51.

Sounds close, doesn't it OP? Er, wrong. In games there's a huge difference. You don't notice it when there's little going on, but where the AMD will stutter and spit and choke dropping to ~25FPS, the Nehalem hardly, if ever, gets below 55fps in any game I play. It's always smooth as silk.

I can imagine a SB or Ivy to be just like that, but better. I.E. it will last longer. I don't think I'd see a difference in day to day use.

I HATE trying to help people like this. It's cool if they just don't get it, but are willing to learn. But just ignoring maintainence (I can't spell today) /safety etc just drives me up a wall.

Wha..? Is this true for everyone? Both my PCs bring up browser/homepage before you can bat an eyelash. What would have happened from Nehalem to SB to cause ... that?
