Can this Rosewill 550w PSU run this system?

Thread Starter
Intel i5 2500k
XFX ATi 6870
8GB DDR3
500gb HD

This is the PSU

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=17-182-017&SortField=0&SummaryType=0&Pagesize=10&PurchaseMark=&SelectedRating=-1&VideoOnlyMark=False&VendorMark=&IsFeedbackTab=true&Keywords=6870#scrollFullInfo

I'm aware it only has 1 6pin connector, I was wondering if an adapter would be sufficient to run this system?

Thanks! thumb.gif

Edit: Will definitely not be overclocking!

Since you're not overclocking, it might be OK.  However, I do not know if this is a trustworthy PSU.  The label says its +12V capacity is 420W, so if this is true then it has enough power, but I doubt that it can be trusted to power nice computer parts harmlessly.

Indeed that's a crap unit, you should look for something else.

What you need is the Rosewill Capstone version 450 or 550, gold rated and very reliable. I run a 3770K overclocked to 4.7 and a 7870 bumped up to 1075mhz and 1275mhz, 120g Crucial M4, Samsung 1 tb Hdd, and a D5 pump on a Capstone 450 without any hiccups. If you are worried go up to a 550, main thing is that you use a high quality Psu. Besides being more reliable they have less ripple in current and no nasty voltage spikes. thumb.gif

There's also the 550W SeaSonic G Series on sale right now for $74.99 shipped, and it comes with a $15 rebate:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151119 (I know you're in California, but this is still a very good deal)

It's a high-end modular PSU.  Sure, it has way more power than you need right now because all you really need is a quality-made 400W unit, but this PSU should cost over $100!

If this one is too expensive, then here's the cheapest one that I will recommend:

520W Antec NEO ECO for $58.98 after shipping

It has one 6-pin PCI-E cable, and one 6+2-pin PCI-E cable.  So for just a small increase in price but a huge increase in quality (not to mention it has two 6+2-pin PCI-E cables), the 550W SeaSonic G Series seems like a complete steal to me.

My reason for liking it is not because it's made by SeaSonic.  ;)
