Some keys not working on notebook keyboard

The , . / and SHIFT key (4 in a row) and the ; key (above/middle the 4 in a row) have stopped working....

  • they worked intermittently for a couple days, and now completely dead.
  • if one died when they were working intermittently, all 5 died
  • USB keyboard works fine
  • nothing was spilled on the keyboard

i've tried:
  • rebooting into safe mode
  • reattaching the ribbon to the MB connector
  • deleting and reinstalling the drivers

this keyboard/notebook has taken some good slams from my fists. the motherboard was replaced few months back and haven't hit it since then. i don't know if the MB is new or refurb (was replaced under warranty).

anything else i can try short of testing another keyboard?

my main concern is that it's the connector or some part on the MB as opposed to the keyboard....which is more likely given the bit of info here?

Try slamming it with your fists from the bottom.

In all seriousness hopefully it is a ribbon cable or something that has come lose. Take it apart and inspect it.

While we all may have "raged" to some degree, try to avoid this in the future, or restrict your beatings to inexpensive peripherals.

Check the spill guide here. It has a link to laptop replacement instructions although I don't know your particular model.

I'm just trying to determine at this point if it's the MB/connector on the MB, or if it's the keyboard/ribbon cable.

Most people don't report back with what fixed their issue...some people who have reported a new keyboard didn't fix the problem for very similar issues (tight group of non-working keys) hence it was a MB issue..but only found 1 or 2 reports like this

i'm in thailand somewhat near a major city with several computer centers, so likely i'll be able to test a replacement before i buy, but i'm 3 hours from the city unfortunately... i'll be going back this weekend though and i'll see if i can turn one of these up
