Gpu usage not pegging in bf3 680 sli setup

Thread Starter
Sig has system specs.

Recently installed a second 680 in my pc and I'm finding my cards maxing out around 85% in the spawn menu and hovering around 63-78% once spawned. Ultra settings at 1080p. Latest beta driver. Rolled back to 306.79 with no effect. Reinstalled latest beta and problem persists.

In benchmarks the cards max out no problem so this seems tied to bf3 only.

Anyone have a similar issue?

I'm currently pulling within 10fps of my average with my old 480 sli setup.... Kinda sucks.

You need a higher resolution to Max out those GPU's I would suspect wink.gif

This.

It goes without saying that lower GPU usage is usually down to the CPU not being able to prepare frames fast enough for the GPU to render. This happens when there is a lot of stuff going on in game, or where the main game thread saturates an execution core.

Do you have a FPS cap/vsync on or something?

I have had some problems with SLI and CFX over my years, and sometimes the only solution to get everything right is to install Windows over again.

Check that threaded optimization is on for BF3 and power management mode to Prefer max performance (in nvidia control panel). This could help!

Best of luck finding out whats wrong! smile.gif

I had similar problems with Metro 2033 when it came out my SLi system.

I actually had better performance running a single card than i did in SLi.

A week later Metro 2033 released a update and Nvidia released a new Beta driver. Installing these fixed my problem.

Also, on a side note: Percentage of CPU usage is pretty straight forward and completely accurate. Percentage of GPU being used (espically in a SLi system) is a very abstract process, and that 85% number might not be completely accurate. Rendering on a GPU is a multi-step process.

Try taking your card out of SLi and see if it is still using 85%.

Check the BF3 website for updates and patches.

Are you using the correct SLi bridge?

If you hav vsync on or adaptive vsyc, and youve alredy hit 60 fps, theres no need for the gpu to work harder. So it wont.

People don't understand that Nvidia SLI almost never will be using 90%+ of each card. Even with vsync off, performance prefer and other settings. I have two 670 and the same problem, usage keeps at 60~70% in BF3 and other games, the ONLY game that uses more than 95% of each card ALL THE TIME is Medal of Honor: Warfighter, I tried a lot of different games and all of them have the same problem, poor GPU usage...

I will never SLI again, the best thing to do is stay with one single GPU. Or try ATI, my friend with 2x 7970 got 98~99% usage all the time in BF3 thumb.gif

The whole thing about sli never going to 90+ is a load of crap guy. My 480's pegged no problem. And 101 fps avg is a joke for dual 680's. it's clearly a driver issue or a game patch problem.

Not maxing usage is ether a driver/game patch issue or a bottleneck. And a sandy bridge isn't a a bottleneck on two 680's.

And you can keep ati I had 2 7970's and the drivers were beyond wonderful..... I'm not a spend a grand and oh wait till they fix it kinda person.

Correct sli bridge? I didn't know there were multiple kinds. I'm not using the 16 foot bridge msi gave me. I'm using the asus triple slot spaced bridge I got with my motherboard.

Out of sli my original card will max out no issue. It will pull 77fps avg. no problem. I haven't tried the second new card on its own.

1 680 = 77fps
2 680's = 101fps

?

Something is wrong here

I have also noticed a strange issue in terms of sli. Both cards will do 1400 stable in heaven without a problem. But link them in sli and 1300 isn't even possible.

When you had two GTX 480 was getting 99% usage on both EVERY game? I say that because a friend of mine with two 570 has the same problem as me, and in Battlefield 3 I doubt it you get more than 90% usage, multiplayer only
