amd fx 8350 or a10-5800k

Thread Starter
Hi,

I'm confused and please help me decide ^^.

First, I'm on a tight budget and value every money i spend that why i chose AMD over Intel.
Second, I'm new to building rigs. Third, I'm into gaming, mostly gaming(sometimes game recording, video editing and some photoshop).

my first build choice is:
"The reason i went this build because a10 was fm2(I've read somewhere that future amd cpu's will be socket fm2, and i plan to use extreme6 for years to come). and a10-5800k is the best fm2 chip out right??"

cpu: a10-5800k
mobo: asrock a85mx extreme 6
gpu: power color HD 7770 vortex 2 OC ed
psu: still dont know ^^

my second choice is:
"8350 is pretty much faster that a10 that's a fact. but the fm2 motherboards have brighter future ahead. though am3+ has steamroller coming, im so confused"

cpu: fx-8350
mobo: asrock 970 extreme 4
gpu: power color HD 7770 vortex 2 OC ed
psu: still dont know ^^

I still dont know/ dont have any idea which psu should i get on both builds. can you guys help me decide and what psu to get for each build.
(edit: * i've heard that too low or too high wat on psu might damage or affect your computer)

I plan to overclock/xfire in the future.

Thanks a lot!

My opinion would be as follows as I've considered the exact same setup.

The A10 and HD7770 can be hybrid x-fired for added GPU power and less hungry for a hefty PSU, versus the FX power draw, especially when overclocked. The speed difference of the FX, IMHO, wouldn't warrant the future upgrade possibilities of the FM2 socket.

the 7770 cannot be xfired with the 5800k as it uses a different core arch.

Correct me if I am wrong but you'll need to use a Radeon card 7600 series or lower to get hybrid CFX with an A10.

I could see if you were trying to decide between A10-5800K and FX-4300, as they are both very similar. The FX-8350 has twice the cores, uses more power, and costs about $100 more.

What are you wanting to do with this computer? If it is for casual gaming then go with the FX-4300, its a similar chip to the A10-5800K only no integrated GPU (you wont be using it if you get a 7770 anyway) and it has an L3 cache (the A10 does not). Also for $10 more you can get the FX-6300 which is a 6 core CPU and very similar to both chips.

Well, it looks like my plan will have to change frown.gif Thanks for the heads up...I could have made a drastic mistake!

not really, a A10 and a 7770 is still a good combo just no crossfire but all in all gives option for 7770 crossfire down the line if deemed neccessay and can use the IGP on the A10 as a back up video source which is still able to play games smile.gif

But why not just get a FX-4300 which is slightly more powerful and is proven to overclock better. I mean if you're not going to use the integrated graphics, why pay for it?

cpus are more powerful and easier to overclock. also the 4300 is cheaper.
