MDPC-X Crimper!!! - Page 7

Then point me into the direction where I might find such crimpers that will do the job for those type of pins, because I want to shorten the length of my D5 pumps power connector.

The correct crimper for series 8981 costs a couple hundred dollars.
Here's a good alternative for 5 bucks smile.gif

That will slowly but surely destroy the part of the crimper than makes the nice B shape around the bare wire. Better to just use long-nose pliers

This doesn't make sense to me... I've emailed Nils to ask him about this, and I'll post as I find out.

What if we shortened the 'wing' by snipping it shorter?

What WiSK is saying (and confirmed by Nils) is that the material that the connector is made of is quite a bit thicker than the ATX pins.
Unless you want to spend $200+ on a crimper for a connector that is being phased out, use a pair of piers to crimp them smile.gif

You can use the crimpers that PPC-s/FTW PC etc sell. I use them for Molex 4 pin and they work fine for me. I don't use my MDPC crimpers with those pins, though as I don't want to muck it up.
Precrimping with pliers won't hurt, but I want a good solid crimp so I always follow up with the blue handled crimpers, can't remember the name of them offhand.
They aren't made specifically for those pins, but they will work with a little care.

Nils has mentioned more than once he will move on to something else in a few years time. But I am nowhere near as good as a friend as my nametwin is to know the exact details. I know he also had more screws and such in his shop before I ever bought something there. And he has mentioned that chances are he will make his assortment smaller rather than bigger in the future. I was quite surprised to see him introducing commando green this year.

And he actually DOES make the sleeving himself on his own machines. He does not make the crimper. One needs quite big machines for that and it is not like he sells 250 a day of them.

If he ever stops we will have to move him and torture him to get his secrets out of him. biggrin.gif I would pay a good amount to take over his business so this type of stuff can be done. But lets stop talking about it and enjoy it while it is still here for the coming years to arrive.

After recently getting a job which includes panel building and various other types of wiring I was shocked to find out just how expensive tools like crimpers can be. Just last week we ordered 2x Molex Clik-Mate crimpers and 2x wire strippers and couldn't believe my eyes when I checked the price of the order... just over £600 for 4 hand tools blinksmiley.gif

The really handy thing about working there is that I wont have to pay for crimps or tools when I finaly get around to tidying up my rig in the near future with some nice MPDC sleeving smile.gif
