Premix or Dye Additive that DOES NOT produce gunk

I know right off the bat you may think just distilled water is superior, I know it is. The thing is there isn't may colored reservoirs. Frozenq offers some but all with lighting effects. I'd rather have one tinted a color like bitspowers reservoirs that are "ice blue". The problem with these is that they aren't UV. I want my reservoir to glow but not so bright that it drowns out the rest of the detail from the case. So I really am trying to find a dye or premix coolant that is UV Blue that doesn't gunk up. Hopefully people who are running dye or premix could come forth and give me their testimonial on the colored coolant they own. Thanks!

There are UV reservoirs and UV tubing, or you can modify them to have a very similar effect.

Dyes have their place and can look really cool, but I have yet to run any colored fluid that I'm happy with the end results 6 months later. Pure distilled systems however I have repeatedly run for 1-2 years without any obvious issues that would prompt the need to remove the fluid.

While I've had good luck with many fluids not catastrophically gunking, I have yet to run one myself that still looks as good as new 3 months later demanding much more frequent maintenance than a pure water based loop. Most colored systems I've built have lost some noticeable bling within only a month of use, and usually had to replace within 3 months use. The UV reaction especially seems to degrade faster than the regular color.

The catastrophic gunking posts you occasionally see are more likely very unique chemical combinations from not only the fluids added, but chemicals coming from tubing, blocks, and radiators mixing together to formulate that perfect goo. It doesn't happen all the time, but if you brew up just the right combination it is possible. Heck it's even possible to gunk up a water based loop with enough flux and/or plasticizer.

Also beware that some dyes can be incompatible with certain tubing brands as well. You may want to see this thread where the Mayhem's rep comments around post #19. Good luck. smile.gif
