Suggest a System For Games and School ($800-$900)

Thread Starter
Missed out on the 17R Dell deal, going to have to find something else sadly.

What is your maximum budget?
$800-$900

What country are you in?
United States

What will be the uses of this laptop?
Mainly for school, gaming on the side.

Do you have brand loyalty or care which brands we select for you?
None

What screen size do you require?
15.6 or 17.3

What screen resolution do you require?
1600x1080

Are you looking to buy NEW or would refurbished/recertified/used be okay?
New preferred, used is ok.

What games would you like to play with your laptop? And on what settings?
Diablo 3, Guild Wars 2, Battlefield 3 smoothly regardless of settings.

What operating system do you need? (if any)
Windows 8 preferred, but W7 is totally fine.

Is there a certain style of laptop you want? (aluminum, black, gaming, etc.)
Black, but generally style doesn't matter. Nothing too flashy like big logos, backlit keyboards, etc.

How much hard drive space do you need?
750 GB+

Do you need any special hardware? (blue ray, webcam, specialty ports, etc.)
Webcam

Is there anything else we need to know?
Unable to get a Sager system. I dislike Dell, Sony, and HP.

Thank you for the help!

Your requirement of...

...is literally impossible for a machine of that price range. Triple the budget and you can do it.

The Sager NP6350 would be your best bet for a good mix of mobility and firepower. The machine comes with an Ivy i5, 8GB RAM, 2GB GTX 660M, 1080p screen, and has a free upgrade for a 750GB HDD.

It's a little over $900, around $950, but it's probably the best deal you can get unless you care to search around a bit more.

He says he wants a 1600*900 screen (I know he said 1600*1080 but you can't really find that on a laptop display since most are 1600*900 instead of 1600*1080) a GT 650M should be perfect for that, or as 660M (which is basically an overclocked 650M).

You can try these: Toshiba Satellite Pro C870
MSI CX70

Though, I personally prefer MSI.. smile.gif

Those are rather overpriced, the MSI more than the Toshiba but overpriced nonetheless.

The thing is, there aren't many machines out there that offer a good gaming solution at 900p anymore. You either get 1366x768, or 1080p. Since most 1080p laptops are easily had, I still say to go for the Sager I listed in my first post. It's the best you can manage for the money...unless you're partial to buying a used machine.

BF3 smoothly on lowest settings is esily possible for machines in that price range.
IF by regardless you dont care for the settings and as long as your getting 30fps minimum

I hear the 1080p version can be had for around the same money.
