Computer started freezing for minutes at a time

So I was playing chivalry medieval warfare today, everything was great running smooth slaying naives when all of a sudden my framerate plummets to 2-4. I minimize the game check if anything popped up, nothing. I maximize the game again still horrible frames so I close the game and restart my computer.

It took about twice as long to fully boot up. Now every minute or so regardless of what I am doing it freezes for minutes at a time.

I had a friend come over and watch my house for a week, and the first thing I noticed is that my computer no longer shows up on my network even though the settings are applied properly.

I am currently running a virus scan, but it is only 1/5 complete and sitting at about 2.5 hours atm.

The rig is the one in my signature. I would rather not have to re-install windows, and I am pretty sure its a hardware error but I don't know where to start checking things.

I googled the issue and came up with This.

Guy had a similar issue was told his power supply was bad and replaced it to no avail.
Also was told it was his motherboard and he never said whether or not that fixed it.

I recently replaced my mobo, ram and CPU, but have had absolutely no issues until now.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Maybe you could ask you friend if he changed anything or noticing anything strange or different such as errors or crashes?

Will do, he is fairly computer illiterate so I don't think he would know how to do anything or what anything meant.

Are there any methods for testing for a faulty motherboard?

Even computer illiterate people will notice a BSOD lol. I would try ruling software first, virus scan, system restore, windows repair etc. Then hardware, reseat, minimal components.

Also does it freeze only while playing the game? It could just be the game? perhaps re=install.

My friend said nothing happened out of the ordinary.

I detected 4 viruses and fixed it, I will be running memtest here shortly.

Are there any other programs I can run to help potentially alleviate the question as to whether its Hardware or software?

No it is constantly. Doing anything it freezes up the entire OS and all programs, nothing works but the mouse for about 1-3 minutes and then it snaps right back to where it let off.

I unplugged all the cables from the power supply and I reconnected everything and checked the cables when I booted it back up, it still took forever to boot, and everything takes a while to open but games are running fine and it is no longer freezing constantly.

Starting to think it may be a software error.

Will be running chkdsk tonight.

I got the same issue to occur again tonight after a long session of gaming, I immediately opened up my Hardware monitor and temperature #3 on the motherboard was 70c and my CPU was at 61c.

I am pretty sure thats high, could my processor or motherboard be overheating and causing these freezes and framerate drops? Would a new cpu cooler help this? and how do I cool my motherboard more?
