Need good chipset waterblock and possibly custom WC Rig

My NB sits around 49-51C when my processor is at load and I have a feeling its holding me back from higher OCs since my processor actually sits stable around 2.78Ghz but an Orthos test for about 5 minutes fails out. Anyone have any suggestions on a chipset cooler for it?? I was thinking about getting the Swiftech Apex Ultra kit but I've heard that the Apogee is a pretty constrictive block and adding on yet another component to the loop wouldn't be the greatest for my temps. My budget is around 300 since thats how much the Apex Ultra+GPU+Chipset would cost me. Thanks!

One of these heatsinks will easily be able to handle any voltages pumped through the chipset. Getting a chipset waterblock is unnecessary, and your other components will want to piss on you when you sleep.

Thermaltake CL-C0034
Thermalright HR-05
Thermalright HR-05-SLI

Which one? Whichever one will fit, without hitting your CPU heatsink or any PCI cards you have.

Something to note is that the Thermalright heatsinks can hold a 70mm fan, and come with zip ties for you to put one on. But, if you want a fan on it, you have to get your own (they were designed to be passive).

1- The Apogee is not constrictive, it's a pretty free flowing block....The Swifty Storm block is very constrictive....fstfrddy here on the Forum makes a very good one that I would highly recommend. He has a new version with a plexi-top that is not as expensive as the V6 ..........Stinger WB

2- Your NB usually doesn't need to be WC, it just adds restriction to your loop...Have you tried to take it off and re-seat it with AS5? That can sometimes have a big effect...If not maybe try this, it's the one I use......Swiftech MCX159-CU Extreme Duty All-Copper Heatsink w/ 40mm Fan

3-Pump.............. Danger Den :: Pumps :: DC Powered :: 12V DD-D5 Pump

4-Res........... Danger Den :: Reservoirs :: Bay Style Reservoirs :: Danger Den Single 5 1/4" Bay Reservoir

5-Rad....This is the best right now.................. Danger Den :: Radiators :: Black Ice Series :: GTX Xtreme Series :: Black Ice GTX240

This one is also good and not as expensive.......Danger Den :: Radiators :: Black Ice Series :: GTS Stealth Radiator :: Stealth GTS 240 Black Ice

6-Tubing..Use this with 1/2" fittings..Flows about as well as 1/2" and is alot easier to work around in your case..............Danger Den :: Tubing :: Tubing and Clamps :: 7/16" ID (5/8" OD) Masterkleer General Purpose Clear PVC Tubing

7-GPU........This is a good one...................Swiftech MCW60 Extreme Duty VGA Bare Water Block (3/8" and 1/2" barbs)

8-Clamps use whatever kind you prefer or zip-ties..

9- Rad-Box.. To hang your rad on the back of your case....... Swiftech MCB-120 Black 120mm Radbox Kit

10- This is the juice I use.. There are probably better and cheaper but I like this.It comes in various colors also.......Fluid XP EXT Extreme Non-Conductive Coolant - UV Midnight Blue 32oz.

Well, don't get a mcw30 chipset block, it looks very nice, but after buying it, I realised it's got basically no surface area for heat transfer, and doesn't cool a northbridge any better than a passive heatsink.

Thanks for all the input! It definitely makes my purchasing alot eaiser. Espcially that actively-cooled northbridge cooler. I have a CNPS9500 though and the NB is literally right next to it. Any chance it might not fit? I'll take pictures.

*EDIT* Forgot to mention, +Rep for all of you for being such helpful people.

Yeah a pic would help if not to much trouble... There are some off set coolers you can also use if need be...But the Swifty one is really good if it will fit....

Well I reseated the NB heatsink and applied some AS5 and it dropped a couple C in orthos testing which makes it stable at 2.75Ghz! I think I'm gonna get that huge chipset cooler though. Attached are the pictures of my board and how much clearance I currently have. I'm gonna go water soon hopfully so clearance won't be that big of an issue but as of now, it is. So, think its gonna fit?

*EDIT* Deciding between the Thermaltake CL-C0034 and the Swiftech MCX159-CU Extreme. Anyone have any suggestions?

I don't know if it will or not...That's a tight fit there...Your temp's should drop a couple more C's as the AS5 cures...If you can live with that till you get wet I would just wait...If you want me to look for a off-set cooler let me know and I will be glad to look around for one....

Thanks for the review. I think I'm gonna hold off on the changing of chipset coolers until I go water. Can't afford water until next month anyways. Thanks for the advice!
