XFX Black/Double Dissipation Club! - Page 47

Ok. With 1252 on the core, 1650 on the memory, +150 voltage offset and the +50% power target, during the run, it peaked at 1.305v. At some point, it has maxed out to 1.438, but not during the Firestrike test run.

Will changing the DPM7 voltage, change the voltage offset to be used? And....why is the max voltage I'm seeing, no matter what I set the slider to, 1.438v?

I'm going to flip back to the stock bios, and run it, see what voltage I'm getting there. If I recall correctly, nothing really changed there.

It might be the memory....I'll report back when I nail it down for sure. bleh

UPDATE: Part of it is the memory. Any time I try to set the memory clock any where near 1700, it nearly insta-crashes. Memory timings are too tight, there, I'd guess.

Also, still a LOT of vdroop under load. Shows max VDDC at 1.442v, but during the run it drops to a low of 1.273v. That with 1313 on the core, and 1638 on the memory....and a lot of artifacts. Dropping the memory down a bit helps stabilize it, but....also lowers frames.

Tried several different core clocks, around 1300 worked the best. I'd guess because the voltage is dropping to where it runs happy at that clock?

I noticed as well, that the 12v rail on the PSU is dropping to 11.6v while it's under load. Still within specs, but.....would that cause part of the voltage problem I'm seeing?

SIDE NOTE: Now even on the stock bios, if I get anywhere near 1750ish, it insta-crashes as soon as I hit apply. Does it take a few reboot cycles for it to switch back to the stock bios?

You might need a PT-Based BIOS if you hate VDroop. The Voltages really drop as soon as you OC these cards. There's nothing you can do with it.

For your Base ROM, I am asking TheStilt about certain Voltage limits on roms and how to counter them. We might get away with more Voltage using stock BIOS.

Timings mod make a difference in Benching but daily use is a matter of hit or miss. And your stock rom has a very tight timings at default. The 1250 timings made it tighter. Yours didn't have other straps past 1375. And really amazing you can hit 1800+ Memory.

I noticed the top line in the memory clocks section was missing the line that the PT1 bios had....The memory seems to run best around 1790ish.

Power limit. What exactly does the power limit do, when the card reaches it? I was noticing last night, in GPUz, when the card was under the most stress, and the deepest spikes in the voltage, the card was hitting that watts out / watts in...can't remember which, of that 218 watts that's set in the stock bios.

So...in the Hawaii bios reader, I can change those settings by clicking into that field. Does that actually make that change? Or would I need to get the hex reader? I want to try raising those, the TDP, Power limit and TDC to 500 watts. Just to see what happens when I run the same settings.

I'm glad I made the switch. I was torn at first, but....I'm sold. I may even go with AMD on my next GPU too. = )

Hey buddy. You still in for some action?

I can mod your Stock rom for a semi-unlimited Voltage now. thumb.gif

Do it up...let's leave the memory timings alone, though. That caused some big problems for me.

I just saw your post in the bios editing thread. How's vdroop?

I'll have to wait until I get home tonight. I'm on the work pc atm, and don't have a copy of it.
