IS this a good deal on a good notebook? Core i3-2328M for $429?

Hey guys,

i want to buy my mom a notebook and i found this one for $430 CND at bestbuy during their Cyber Monday sale.

I just reserved it and can still choose not to buy it but i'm not familiar with how notebooks are priced and what parts come in them these days. So full spec sheet:

- Intel Core i3-2328M processor and 6GB RAM
- 750GB hard drive
- Preloaded Windows 8 64-bit
- HDMI, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, and memory card connectivity options
- $430

Its an Acer but i've had 2 acer notebooks that haven't given me any issues and i think the i3 will be a heck of alot faster than my AMD E-450 laptop. She doesn't do any intensive stuff and will probably use it for Websurfing and maybe use word to type up afew documents but i want something with decent processing power so she never feels it's slow.

Deal or no deal? i couldn't find anything better at NCIX.ca for the same price and their laptop same specs expect with mobile AMD-A6 4400m was $100 more.

It's only a 2nd generation i3, so it consumes more power, isn't as powerful, and doesn't have near as good graphics as 3rd generation.

Also, is this a laptop, about 1.2 inches thick? Would you prefer to get an ultrabook to be much lighter, thinner, and portable?

I picked up an Acer at BestBuy.ca on Black Friday. $550

3rd Gen i5-3317U
8GB RAM
500GB HDD (All you need for a laptop. Get a 3TB external if need be)
USB 3.0
Thin Ultrabook and looks amazing

Damn good deal. Surprised Best Buy was the one offering it.

However, since the laptop you're showing is $136 cheaper I'd say that's still good bang for buck. You're limited to what you can buy now as it's literally the end of the sale. For older clunky laptops I find lenovo has great deals right now especially with double cashback on Ebates.

For your Mom? Yeah that's a good laptop. Any 2nd or 3rd Gen i series LT is good for Mom's I think. Swap out the 750GB HDD for a 120GB SSD and she'll be happy as a clam (it will make the LT so much faster).
