(ram doesn't affect ATI Tool once u get over about 256mb) lets u know when u get your 2400+. hopefully u will get lucky and it will overclock like nothing else. just like mine has - current CPU speed = 2.6Ghz.... Stock = 2Ghz. i doubt u will get it that high. but they normally go to 2.25Ghz Very easily. on and BTW your has twice the FSB as mine. (well stock anyway) i have mine running at 288fsb with a Multiplier of 9. anyway best of luck
Yeah, thanks for that! I changed the setting in the 3D Tray Tools down to "Benchmarks" and now I get 134 FPS average! Yay! I was also able to OC the card to 315/305 but that's it, and it gets artifacts...
The FX5800 arrived today. It came in a nifty box
It's an ASUS V9900 and it came with some great free games! It came with Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear -Black Thorn-
, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Worms Blast, and a IL2 Demo
disk. I'm pretty happy with those
The card though...I'm not so thrilled about. Firstly, it's a bit long...it barely fits in my system!
The card is right up against the HDD IDE cables. I had to put the molex power connector on the card first and then install the thing. Did I mention that it takes up a PCI slot?
The cooling looks pretty cool, but is kinda loud at max speed. It sounds like a small motor redlining or maybe a jet engine. However, that was only a few seconds during bootup and it was fine after that. It is actually pretty quiet on normal speed. It seems to spin faster at higher temps, which is a nice feature.
So I install the drivers included and everything seems fine except the ATiTool FPS. 50 FPS??? ***??? I install Omega Drivers and reboot. 70 FPS. Ok that's still OK but the 9500 got better scores! I change some settings...ok 80 FPS. w/e I give up...
In RivaTuner the program reads it as an FX5800 Ultra with DDR2 memory. Because of this, I can't boot my system up again because the mobo and the OS see different video cards. So in RivaTuner I change the card to an FX5800.
When I reboot I see "128-bit NV30 Nvidia FX5800 with DDR2." Ok so I go to Display Properties and then to settings. A Windows pop-up says that the currnet graphics drivers can't be used because it was designed for a previous version of Windows and that it is incompatible. It then says that it is reverting to the Default VGA driver. Nothing else changes I can OC etc. but it is annoying
Overclocking to Ultra specs are a snap. In Rivatuner I just move the bar up in 2D and 3D performance to the max detected OC and voila! FX5800 Ultra! I check in ATi Tool and I get 90 FPS avg. My Ti4200 gets that in ATiTool @ stock!
It seems to do well in AM3 though. At stock, it got 28,549 compared to 26,868 with my 9500 Pro @ stock. I have not run any other tests though...I may sooner or later
So overall, this card is about a 4% upgrade from a 9500Pro...so far. I got to test other things...
I can't take pics yet...I can't find where my parents hid the digital camera! lol
