2 weeks old 7970 high pitch noise and crashing. Help appreciated.

Okay so yesterday I was able to play games without any problem. Shut my signature PC off, turned it back on this morning and when I launched PS2, it started doing weird high pitch noise and would make my game crash. I tried games stored on my HDD and they were all crashing, then I tried games stored on my SSD and the same thing happened. I removed my GPU and tried to launch games, no more high pitch noise.

As soon as I reach the main menus, the sound become like that and does not stop, eventually the game crash. The sound does not seem to come from the PSU. I would need help with this issue since this is my first build. I would also need advice on how to deal with this problem. Any help will be appreciated.

Will I need to RMA the card? How does that work? Do I need to pay for shipping? The card was bought from NCIX Canada.

3570K on Hyper evo
MSI Z77 Mpower
MSI reference 7970
Corsair AX750

Thank you.

Edit; I am able to use my PC with the card, it starts doing the noise and crashing when I run games. I also changed the bios switch on the card, still doing it. Everything is currently non-OCed.

That sounds like capacitor whine, it happens every now and then however it doesn't normally mean that it's an unstable card.

Now, have you tried running Furmark and is the same thing happening? If it is then it's time to RMA it I'm afraid my friend, it might have come from a bad batch.

I ran furmark for 2 minutes, no sounds whatsoever. Temperature is alright. How come my games crashes if the sound is normal?

Did you run it on your brutal test?

Run it for a while and see what happens, 15 - 20 minutes, it might need to heat up the card.

Also check you have V-Sync in your games enabled. You have the 12.11 drivers don't you.

I do have the 12.11 drivers. When V-sync is on the sound stops in game. I will run the test for a while. I will post the results.

I put switched my bios to what it was then ran the test for 15mins.

Right,

That noise is related to the refresh rate that causes the issue... I had the same issue when my GPU was pushing out 150 FPS but my screen was at 60 and it caused this horrible noise.

Try your game with V-Sync enabled and that should be ok, as for your scores there, the GPU is getting a little hot but should be ok biggrin.gif
