Pleas, stop kidding yourself. someone in my family has one, and it took 1/2 an hour to get a scuff on it (unintentionally).

However, from your experience, what did people actually buy from the Microsoft Store ? The article in the OP states that
So, did people in the store you went to actually buy a Surface RT or just bought an Xbox game or something else ?

What did people in the Apple store buy? Apple headphones and Apple adapters to use all their old proprietary docks.

I don't know why we discuss this article. It's a terrible article where the same methodology could be used in malls all over and get a radically different result for each and every time its done.

A terrible test methodology is terrible. It's not news, not at all. There's nothing scientific about it, there's nothing we can really draw any realistic conclusions from. It comes across, as very pro-Apple.

It's about as scientific as me saying I'll walk down the street and take a survey of what phones I see people using. Now, if for some odd reason I see 3 iPhones, 2 S3's, an S2, an LG, Sony, HTC but see like 10 oldschool motorola Razrs (flip phones style!), won't mean if I post an article about it saying Motorola Razr flip phones are the most popular, that it'd be taken seriously.

Yet here are a bunch of supposedly in the know tech users, all arguing about something as silly as this. (in the tablet market)Apple is popular, MS is popular to a lesser extent and will pick up steam. All these kinds of articles are doing is sucking us to their site to make ad monies, and they seem to be doing a very good job off us gullible tech enthusiasts.

So a guy saw one store get more traffic than another store one day... yippee... rolleyes.gif

It will fill up. Trust me, as a dev, C# is quite a bit easier to code in than Obj-C/Java.

the methodology of the "study" in the article is flawed. but there's plenty of hard data showing that ms has been going nowhere on new mobile arm devices recently.

In the end I don't think this was meant as a scientific proof it was more an observation of two malls on black friday. The target of this article isn't so much geeks as investors….

We don't have to get past your first sentence to notice that you DID NOT READ THE TITLE OF THE ARTICLE, let alone the article itself.

It's true that the survey has limited scope, but it is what is is. Those guys were not just observing people come in and out, you are mistaking the video, which was made by CNNMoney, with the survey Piper Jaffray made, which is referenced in the last sentence I quoted. I didn't quote more because that could go against OCN's rules of not quoting too much, I was hoping that the last sentence I quoted, along with the title of the text, would give people the idea that Piper Jaffray actually did more than just count heads and people would read the article; they were observing how many people actually bought iPads vs how many bought a Surface RT, and not like you say "Apple headphones and Apple adapters to use all their old proprietary docks"

You're right, nobody here is pretending this is scientific proof, but until we get official numbers (if we ever do), these kinds of articles give some insight, especially interesting when some people just claim that the Surface RT is a success, based mainly on one Cnet article that I quoted in the OP, where the journalist claims many people were interested, but doesn't say a word about how many people he actually saw buying the device (in case he actually went to that trouble). I guess this article does a bit better. It's far for perfect, but at least it's something. It's not just biased journalism like that Cnet article. It is what it is. The sample is very limited ? Yes, but nobody is trying to deceive anyone.

Oh, also, it wasn't two malls, it was the same mall, the Apple Store and the Microsoft Store were just across the hall.

Oh, also, it wasn't two malls, it was the same mall, the Apple Store and the Microsoft Store were just across the hall.

"FORTUNE -- On Saturday we posted side-by-side videos showing Black Friday shopping activity at an Apple Store and a Microsoft Store in Lone Tree, Colo. The videos left the impression that there was a lot less shopping going in the Microsoft Store.
Thanks to Gene Munster's team at Piper Jaffray, we can support that impression with some hard numbers.
Munster's crew spent eight hours on Black Friday, as it has every year for the past five years, counting heads at the Apple Store in the Mall of America in Minneapolis. This year he (or his staff) also spent two hours monitoring the Microsoft Store directly across the hall."

Observations at two malls numbers from one..

Yes, exactly, my point was about the numbers from Piper Jaffray, which is what this article is about, the videos made by CNNMoney are just referenced to pick up where their own previous story had left off.
