You guys weren't kidding about headset sound quality - Page 2

Sony XB500s are so comfortable. They are like pillows on your ears biggrin.gif Tho they are meant for bassheads (insane bass indeed). Love them for listening bassy music. For gaming i use Steelseries Siberia V2 which are comfortable aswell and kicks ass most headsets in sound quality (logitech and creative ones sounds just bad). For everything else i use Sennheiser HD 595.

Sennheiser HD800s. They have a high K/D on your wallet though.
SQ of gaming headphones suck compared to high end headphones. I found multi-driver headphones to have useable placement once I got used to the odd spacing. For instance some will place the center channel right on your nose. Some people have problems with the general HRTF that CMSS3D and Dolby use, but they work well with my ears so I found better placement with 2 drivers. You can get a personalized HRTF if you want to drop the cash on a Smyth Realizer.
I wasnt talking about SQ. I want to know how surround sound and imaging is compared with surround sound headphones with individual drivers made for 5.1 or 7.1 dolby surround, like the Razer Tiamat 7.1, or the Psyco headphones, or Cyborg 5.1 headphone which I own, to a high end headphone that is known to be really good for gaming, like the ath 700 or 900 (closed and open versions), or the sennheiser 650.

That is what he was talking about. He said that, since CMSS-3D and Dolby Headphone work well with his ears, he found that they worked better than a true 5.1/7.1 headset.

Although I've never tried a headset with true 5.1/7.1, I know that CMSS-3D significantly increases my ability to tell whether my enemies are in front of or behind me to the point where I can't imagine true surround being much better. Rather keep the sound quality then.

Never switching from quality cans again.
On a side note, is there a more comfortable pair of cans than the 700s? I've yet to find anything as comfortable for long gaming sessions but would love to hear others opinions.

That's what we keep telling people. At least we now have one more among us that know the truth. As for comfortable headphones. That's a tricky one as pretty much everyone has there own opinion and preference.

Personally I pretty much refuse to use other then full sized headphones that have auto adjusting headband. Currently a I have a pair of Siberia v1's.

The sound is well balanced but noting special. They are very comfortable though I would not mind a bit more padding on the cups. IMO decent for the price but if you are a heavy user of headphones (I don't as I mainly listen to my floor speakers) you do wan something better form a company that makes more mid/high-end stuff like Beyerdynamic, Sennheiser, AKG that sorta thing.

If I was to go out and buy some quality headphones today I would probably go a pair of AKG K-142 HD even if they don't quite conform to my specific ergonomic taste.

The G35s aren't THAT bad when you turn off all the effects. They are actually a decent pair of the lower end of gaming headsets. But still, the for the same price, you'll still find better.

Oh whoops. I see now what he was saying. I dunno. I always have had very precise imaging front and back, and I could even tell there are things above me like helicopters, with these headphones. The only problem is that because of the varying driver sizes, the change in sound level was different with front and back, and because of that less cohesive around me when turning.

So Draygonn, you're saying that you can hear behind just as well as in the front with CMSS-3D?

Yes. This is very important while hiding in a building, keeping my back to a wall and facing an open door, listening for footsteps behind me to know when the enemy will try to enter the building. Soundwhoring, gotta love it thumb.gif
