Conflicted on which one to keep. Need help

Thread Starter
I currently have an Asus Transformer Prime. I was going to order the Nexus 10 this weekend but my girlfriend surprised me with an Asus Vivo RT. I still really want the Nexus 10 because of the resolution but already having the Transformer Prime I dont know if its worth the upgrade. Plus with the Vivo I dont know if I should keep it or just return it.

Anybody have any experience with either the Vivo or Nexus 10 that wouldnt mind sharing thier thoughts?

Btw what is Amazons return policy on opened tablets?

RETURN the Vivo RT ASAP!

The physical build quality is GARBAGE! I really wanted a Windows tablet, so I bought one at Best Buy as it was the only one they stocked at the time. I REALLY like the touch interface of Windows 8/RT.

BUT, there are some very serious physical problems with the VivoTab RT. First and foremost, the absolute worst problem is that the screen flickers VERY noticeably at lower brightness settings, particularly when white or light colored content is displayed (or the opposite, I don't remember). Lower the brightness and go into a dark room to see the effect at its worst.

The display also has trouble with color gradients. Do a Google image search for gradients, and observe the terrible banding.

Aside from this, it feels downright cheap. Press the screen along the edges and at some places you can feel and SEE it moving down, as though it is not firmly affixed to the chassis. Press in the middle of the tablet to feel the whole thing squeeze inward. The volume buttons are especially difficult to press. The rubberized flap covering the HDMI port feels like it will break off if you look at it funny. Mine also developed a brightly colored stuck pixel in the middle of the screen.

I returned the hunk of garbage to Best Buy and ordered a Surface. I couldn't be happier.

If your girlfriend doesn't mind return the VivoTab RT and get the one you want. If you liked Windows 8 RT then I would recommend getting a Microsoft Surface.

I think i will return the Vivo. I see what you are talking about it does feel a bit cheap. Also I noticed when you touch on a relativly dark screen the color changes kind of like how when you press on an LCD screen and it does that wave of color change. It's as if the screen isnt attached correctly.

I think I only really want a Windows RT just because its something different. I just wish there was one with a high resolution like the Nexus 10

I've used the Nexus 10 and I own the Surface, and I must say I don't really miss the screen. The Nexus 10 screen looks great, especially when viewing text and vector graphics but the Surface's screen with Clear Type looks really good too. With a screen this small a resolution of 1366x768 is still really good, especially combined with Clear Type. If you have a Microsoft Store near enough I recommend giving the Surface a try. Keep in mind, though, that performance won't be quite as good as in the Surface buy. The demo Surfaces at the store run a demo version of the OS without updates. It resets itself every night. They still run pretty well, though.
