Nope. It wins because the tiles are centrally located and large, and more likely to be closer to the mouse pointer when you press the start key. Versus the start menu where you always need to move the mouse to the bottom left corner of the screen and be more deliberate to select a smaller icon. Also, the tiles are live and can display useful information before you even click it.

Whats's more, the keyboard shortcuts provided in the new Win+X menu make accessing advanced system settings in Windows 8 A LOT faster than in 7.

And as for your second statement, the average person does not upgrade often. The tech savvy are the most likely to upgrade.

Changed your mind about Windows 8 being a fail. Microsoft sold 60 million copies of Windows 7 in 10 weeks. They sold 40 million copies in 5 weeks. Basic elementary school education says

6 million copies per week for Windows 7
8 million copies per week for Windows 8

There is a huge difference between upgrading and getting a new PC and throwing out the old one. The average user doesn't usually keep their old computer when they buy a new one, therefore 300 million PC sales per year =/= the number of computers in use.

I never claimed Windows 8 sales was a fail though.

doh.gif seriously? I've heard crappy arguments b4, but this one is beyond ridiculous.

Look at what I quoted when I said that, it was in reply to that...When you're talking small differences in speed like that it actually does make a big difference.

It doesn't remind you of the fan club at all, for if you were a fan then you'd see that most of the fan club arguments are dispelling myths about the ease of use of Windows 7 vs. 8, not what preference is. Claims like shutting down the PC or searching for programs is somehow more convoluted in Windows 8.

These aren't preferential claims, but facts. I couldn't care less about your preference, but don't make subjective claims about objective things.

They definitely do, GUIs are very subjective things, why do you think Linux users don't all use GNOME? Because not everyone wants the same GUI, this is a basic bloody computing concept to know. I've seen the same faces defending Windows 8 and literally claiming Metro is better for everyone and that we all should just switch in multiple threads, so I have no idea which fanclub you follow but the one I see just doesn't get that GUIs are subjective and there is absolutely zero reason to not also have a classic menu.

I'd say the sales prove a point. Which shows that again it's just a minority of people that dislike it.

It's split about half/half, plus considering it's in a completely new fast growing, massive market (Tablets) too now it really should be selling more than Win7, also you need to take into account the 35 million monthly PCs shipped, that could easily be the majority of the numbers, and how many of those users are liking the changes?

4% is a minority.

Windows 7 also sold just under 4% of computer owners.

This website says
Quote:
According to a report by Forrester Research, there were over one billion PCs in use worldwide by the end of 2008

Almost 4 years ago. Lets assume that now it's at around 1.25 billion currently in use.

Currently 3.2% of PC owners have a copy of Windows 8.
In the first month of Windows 7 launching Microsoft sold 4.8%

Obviously it is more, but what does the percentage have to be before it isn't classes as a "fail"

Personally I would say at least 20%

By the way, the 40 million copies includes OEMs just like the 60 million sales of Windows 7 in the first month.

Just so you know I'm pretty sure recent numbers said it was actually over 2 billion now. Source.

I never said I hate Windows 8. And OBVIOUSLY I did read the article. 40mil / 1bil computer owners compared to 2009 30mil sales. It does seem like WIndows 7 is still slightly ahead.
So nice insulting me, please, go learn respect before you get in trouble.

If you do the math 40 million in 5 weeks is faster than 60 million in 10 weeks.

Remember to take into account that 10 million more PCs are shipped every month now compared to when Win7 came out.

That math would put them on the same track as Windows 7 still. Sounds good to me.

I'd say Windows 8 sales will speed up once uninformed users realize that it's not as bad as people are making it seem. I've converted several people myself after they thought Windows 8 had changed drastically and they realized it was ok.

For people who like the old UI, they can stick with Windows 7. Windows has lots of integration plans between tablets and PCs so that's possibly why they don't want to go back.

The UI is really quick so I have no issues with it.
