Friendly ideas to improve BGB team - Page 2

Just a thought I had:

A separate "Official" thread for prominent BOINC Projects. For example,
  • Official DiRtT Thread
  • Official Poem Thread
  • Official World Community Grid Thread
  • Official GPUGrid Thread
  • Official Milkyway@home Thread
  • Official PrimGrid Thread

Advantage: There is a lot of great information spread out between different threads for these projects. Having one thread for a given project would help consolidate information and help members. You could subscribe to the threads of your favorite projects and stay updated

Disadvantage : Creating more threads, deciding which projects are "worthy" of their own thread. Members not realizing there are Official threads and creating their own new threads, probably much more

Maybe we could add a sub forum under this Boinc section for just the project threads or something. They are a good way of getting information across.

well something like that would get a separate thread if majority of the ppl used it. And again lack of ppl hurts us because more work gets pushed on a select few.

Yeah. That's very true.

totally off topic for a second.... but..

You are a monster lol. Your PPD is crazy and you passed my measely 143 rank earlier today.. Made me sad to see I got demoted again haha. I managed to get past DarkRyder on eOn RAC (hehe first place for eOn RAC on ocn haha.), but I've been doing no projects that give good credit which is killing my general RAC... lol

andd... Back on topic haha.

In general, we seem to tend to hover way too much around projects that give insane PPWU which is kinda killing our ranking on the smaller CPU projects (eOn, Enigma, SubsetSum,etc). Maybe we ought to have some prizes for specific projects for BGB, for the less known ones at least (as a bonus I mean).

As Dark stated, i don't think competing between ourselves in teams is really a viable option for BOINC. I do think however that voting for project participation is something we should definitely implement. It shouldn't be solely reserved to projects that are good point generators. I think having at least 1 GPU and 1 CPU project a month to choose from is a good idea because it utilises our resources most effectively, that way no component is idle biggrin.gif

I'm going to work up a list now, dividing all the projects up by CPU and GPU to see what we have. Instead of voting every month on project, why not just work our way through the list at random until it is done, then repeat the cycle? That way every BOINC project gets a chance biggrin.gif

EDIT: Busy making a table of projects we could run, but does anyone know if 'Results ready to send' in BOINCStats is WU's available, or just results that people have computed awaiting to be sent to server? I have already bothered discounting projects that are offline/have huge validation backlogs.

put this in your cc_config and it will report automatically from now on.

I suggested something similair last time one of these threads popped up. I even suggested we nominate one member to be the Manager, if you will, of each specific thread. That way all the important info for THAT specific project would be in one spot, or could be discussed in that thread.

http://www.overclock.net/t/480505/275-month-folding-prizes-september-winners-posted/0_50

In F@H we also have monthly prizes. Does BOINC have something like that? It would have to be pts bigger than what can be achieved in just being in the BGB. Something that causes a person to fold throughout the month just to get the minimum # of pts with a weak hardware (like a quad-core cpu).

Sadly people will only keep crunching if there's some incentive to it. For me the cost of electricity tends to over-ride the feeling of accomplishment of doing it for whatever cause I'm crunching for. But when there's prizes involved, I tend to get quite a bit more persuaded.
