[Sharp] Sharp's new 4K 32" LCD to cost $5,500 USD - Page 19

Have you all not learned anything from Apple?? You won't have to wait 5-6 years for 4k monitors as a standard with Apple around. Remember their resolution on the iPad 3? You think Samsung or LG would have released such a resolution on such a small screen in this decade?? Learn, Apple will be at 4k standard by 2014 duh! Then and only then will the kids over at Samsung and LG and such follow suit like good little children.

With Apples blue prints of course, explains why Samsung and LG didn't come up with it themselves.. And oh yes it's patented so don't copy or get sued like everyone else

Apple just design things and ask big manufacturers such as Samsung and LG to make certain hardware that meets certain requirements. There is nothing stopping Samsung and LG using the same things in their own products. They probably don't want to use them because of the production cost. IIRC the technology in my monitor is the same that is used in the iMacs screen, just bigger.

Not exactly blue prints - they provide a design for the panel and a spec requirement - it is the actual panel manufacturer that does the rest.

And they didn't need to take that risk, since a customer was going to take the risk for them wink.gif

The design (and most likely specs) are under patent - but that doesn't mean the panel manufacturers can not compete with Apple if they wanted to.

The really do not need to make a competing product though, because like it or not, the "i" products from Apple are full of their hardware anyway, so they still make a profit simply by Apple selling their products wink.gif

I don't think apple actually designs any panels, they just design the overall device.

Still though apple is willing to take the risk of high resolution devices, started with the iPhone and continues with the iPad and soon it will really start to pick up with their screens, so as i originally stated 4k will be standard soon with Apple while Samsung and LG don't want to take the risk.

Design, as in artistic design - they draw a pic of how they want it to look, provide a bunch of specs they want it to meet, and then leave the rest for the actual manufacturers to do. That's all I meant as "design" smile.gif
