[SOLVED] Mounting heat sink on top of waterblock

Has anyone tried this? I'm thinking of putting some thermal paste on the top of the water block then mounting an axp 140 on top of the water block to help dissipate some heat from the water before it even gets to the radiator. Maybe I'll use some extra long screws to get both the water block and heat sink mounts in the motherboard at the same time. This is my first time water cooling and I've not seen a water block in real life before. How conducting is the top of the water block and how much of its volume gets filled? Will it be all the way to the top so that much of the water comes in contact with the top of the water block?

It'd be a waste of your time.

I don't think there's enough room with the hoses in the way. Seems a little redundant with rads in place I think.

Good point. The hoses are indeed in the way. I'm just trying to minimize noise with as much passive cooling as possible. How about mounting passive heatsinks on the radiator instead of using push pull fans? Are there any such custom heatsinks or comparable mods?

Without some means of achieving the movement of air over the fins of the rad and your proposed heat sinks there is little cooling going on. Think about yourself on a hot day. Cooler in the wind, right?
Full marks for creativity, however, I don't see any real gain. That being said, you used to be able to buy in line units that were a very small "rad". I can't find them now, so they probably were not worth the money or effort.

Ok thanks. I guess there're no two ways about it (not yet anyway)

No point really, The coolant in WCing is traveling so fast through all the blocks the heat would just be gone...
