Mixed RAM i7 860 Overclock

Thread Starter
Hey guys!

Recently I decided to have my first attempt at overclocking, and well I'm having a few stability issues and I feel as though it may have to do with mixed RAM.

Firstly, my specs are as follows, I am attempting to achieve a 3.8Ghz overclock.

CPU: i7 860 (stock @ 2.8Ghz)
HSF: Noctua U12P-SE2
Mobo: Gigabyte P55A-UD4P
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws 4gb (2x2gb) 1600 Mhz, 9-9-9-24
G.Skill Ares 8gb (2x4gb) 1600 Mhz, 9-9-9-24

As you can see, the RAM is mixed, however, technically speaking only the size of the RAM is different (latency, brand and timings identical). Despite this, my PC is only showing my RAM as 1333 Mhz for some reason and I cannot seem to get a stable overclock without increasing VTT above the recommended threshold of 1.21 V, which I am a little scared of doing. Should I throw away my old RAM? Or simply just increase my VTT above the threshold?

Using these specs, I can achieve a stable 3.8, but I'm scared of the high VTT. Temps are around 66 with full load, around 37 idle.

CPU Clock Ratio: 21x
BCLK: 181
System memory multiplier (SPD): 8
QPI Clock Ratio: x32
LLC Disabled
Vcore 1.25v
VTT: 1.23v
PCH Core 1.05v
CPU PLL 1.8v
DRAM voltage: 1.5v
Turbo boost disabled
Multithreading disabled
C1E disabled
C3/C6/C7 State support disabled
CPU EIST Function disabled
Bi-directional PROCHOT auto

Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

You can go above 1.21v on VTT, I needed about 1.28-1.30v when I had 4x1GB sticks.
Do the mixed sets both require the same DRAM voltage? You'd need to run @ the higher rated kits specs if not.

Using mixed sets can be a gamble on it's own, let alone when you try and introduce overclocking into the mix.
If raising the VTT / DRAM voltage doesn't help I'd probably just ditch the older kit.
