Its truly the best option for you right now.

That's why I bought a 6300 cause I wanted to fit my board for now. Then in a year or two will probably get best CPU regardless of price. But I also fold so its worth it.

I argued with you in another post ranger and i stand by my experience. Going from my 965 to my i5 was night and day. Granted i have 2 cards in crossfire if i had only one would i of noticed such a difference maybe not. But in the games i play GW2,World of Tanks, BF3, Planetside 2, Rift i doubled my framerate in most of those games.

I you dont have the am3+ motherboard yet spend the extra money and get the i5.

And for the people who will say my 965 was 4 years old and the i5 3570k is 6 months old no wonder its faster. The 965 should of been faster in most games than the 8150 according to benchmarks. Amd has dropped the ball in the cpu dept. I owned amd for the last 10 years it was time to say good bye.
Worse than crack.

Best CPU for its price? Quad Opteron 6200s? wink.gif

Yeah the FX-8320 will prove good, overclock it and you'll be happy with it no doubt about it. It'll definitely last out for a few years though smile.gif

Guys just stop it with the AMD vs Intel already. That is clearly NOT the OP's problem as another poster already mentioned. An FX-8150 is more than enough for BF3 and Metro. Actually it's better than a 2500K in BF3 multiplayer.. The real problem is the video card. In order to see a significant difference in these games, he is going to need to make a significant video card upgrade. A 7970 or 680 would be what I would go for. And please don't tell me the FX-8150 can't handle one of those cards when it's already been proven by an OCN user showing examples with BF3 using two 6990's.

The 6300 should outperform the x6 with higher clock speed ability.

You have to think that Bulldozer/Piledozer are not any faster per clock then Intel's old Core 2 Quad series and from the odd comparison here and there the Core 2 Quad still appears to stronger!

You have to think is a Core 2 Quad acceptable as a modern gaming CPU to you? Because that's basically the performance level you're getting from AMD bar games like BF3 and such.

Only if 6300 goes faster, much faster , if you leave both to 4.2 phenom II will be better because it has better IPC.

There is no way a x6 to 4,2 Ghz bottleneck your GPU, maybe its unstable, or you have something wrong in your rig

I have a 670 direct Cu IITOP 1360 core/7300 ram, no bottleneck at all, an playing BF3 60 fps stables like rocks, and 99% usage

Just to compare , same GPU, i7 2600k 4,8 Ghz

Metro 2033 bench

Metro 2033 with DOF enabled

Shogun 2 DX11 1080p High bench gives me 79 fps

and play SC2 to 60 fps easily, or games like Supreme commander 2 60 fps, no problem at all, same with Civilization V

Here screen of lategameview bench

massive battle in supreme commnader 2

And i can continue showing you examples, at 1080p and with Vsync one phenom II x6 to 4,2 Ghz like yours is more than enough.

Sorry for my english

And I don't understand why one would be unwilling to bring the FX-6300 past 4.2?

The FX-6300 is an unlocked multiplier part. It would also consume less power at, say, 4.5 than an overclocked Phenom II x6 at 4.2.
