3930k @5.0 and beyond

Hey.

So I'm at the 5GHz place, and I was wandering what to expect when going further. I know that 1.4 vcore is the max I should be using for 24/7 oc, and I can achieve that at below 4.8GHz. However, for benching purposes, I would like to know what I will be going into. I am now able to bench 3dmark and super pi, but would obviously like to bench at higher frequencies.

First thing's first. These are my settings for 5.0GHz. Cpuz max I saw was v1.488, with it being 1.480 most of the time while IBT on very high for 10 rounds. Can these be tweaked for lower volts or better preformance (or both)?

Also, if I'm going to aim for above 5GHz, how do I go about it? Do I just up the volts until I can log into windows, bench some and revert to my 24/7 lower oc? How can this affect my cpu in the big scheme of things?

Only bench at high volts if you can keep the temps low. I was able to bench my 3930k at 5Ghz (1.465v) with memory at 2400Mhz last night with 9-10c ambients. I was running Vantage and temps maxed at 69c during CPU Physics test

The risk of degrading the CPU increases if you use high volts on a hot running cpu. It sounds like you're looking for a guideline and to be honest, there is none.

Keep it cool when benching, that's the general consensus. I would also stay under 1.5v.

So youre saying that it wouldn't be wise to oc any further above 1.5 vcore because even small sessions of benching (10-30 minutes) could be disastrous? I don't worry about temps yet. After 10 minutes of IBT at 1.480 I was at 72 (will be better when I fix my loop).

If you can keep load temps below 70'C, then I'd think 1.55v is safe for benching.

I've used 1.575v for 5.1Ghz for all my bench runs. Used ~1.65v for for 5.2Ghz( not recommended)

My cpu still runs fine. Keep your VCCSA and VTT below 1.2v if your chip is a C2 version. The IMC of those chips tend to degrade past that voltage point.

My chip is a C1 version, and up to 1.4v won't harm my cpu on the VCCSA / VTT deaprtment. I use 1.2v max anyways for 24/7

My chip is c1. Why will I need to touch VCCSA and VTT (unless thats vcore if I'm not mistaken)?

This. When running higher voltage for benchmarks they are usually over pretty quick, & only a few will load up all the cores.

Looking at your screens the board is auto setting the VTT to 1.256V, it likely does not need that much.

If you have the c1 revision it shouldn't make much difference, although it is kinda like auto vcore, no real need to feed it more than it needs for 24/7 use. I clicked the quote right before you posted that it was c1, so was a little concerned about that if it was c2.
